Did I waste my budget Topic

I was fighting one sim for a recruit. According to the summary page I was the leading team (on top).
I continued sending several more CVs and eventually flipped (green) and signed the recruit

If I did not send the extra CVs would the recruit have signed with me anyway?

Thank you for your time and have a great day

From what I understand there are two things at play:

- SIMs have unlimited money and will continue to put effort into a recruit unless it is flipped Green to a Player Coach
- After signing period the amount of effort or effort differential between one school and the next required to sign a recruit shrinks until a recruit will sign

Knowing this, there is probably an optimal budget where you don't have to flip a recruit green to sign from a SIM. However, since you don't really have a gauge to peer into the effort differential required to sign and a SIM is going to continue putting effort, you greatly run the risk of having to spend even more money to sign.

Personally, I just flip them green and go about my business.

I've signed recruits against sims without turning them green. If you're in the lead and offer a scholarship, you'll want a response that says something like, "You're definitely at the top of my list, but I told another school I'd hear them out", or "I'm definitely leaning towards you, I just want to weigh my options", etc.; then you'll most likely sign the recruit without any additional funds.

You can sign them with them being yellow, but it all just depends on how much of a lead you have over the sim. It is true that they will continue to put effort into the recruit, but how much is anyone's guess. As long as you are in the lead he should sign with you in the end, but you also leave yourself open to other coaches jumping in thinking you are not interested enough in that recruit to knock the sim off.

Also, by leaving him yellow, even if you are leading (your team on top) if you wait too long the recruit will flip and sign to the sim without any notice and you will not have a chance to counter the sim.

Since you can only carry over 25% of any remaining recruiting dollars, better safe than sorry.

What katzphang said is true. Have had this happen a few times. IMO it's best to keep putting $ in and get it over with.
