The 16 team, long-running (over 90 seasons) Real Life Progressive League is looking for a replacement owner for the 1948 Pittsburgh Pirates, and will be starting the draft off the clock on 20 July. The Pirates have a solid team, and are expected to get the 8th or 9th pick in what is a very deep draft (11 picks with above 27 career WAR). We restarted the 3rd iteration of the Real Life League in the 1946 season, with owners getting the exact team that year, so, two years later, there are few changes to the Pirates. For the 1948 season, the Pirates, highlighted by Preacher Roe, retain 973 IPs (including 6 pitchers with over 120 IPs, 5 of whom were primarily starters), so your best bet is to load up on future IPs. Your batting in 1948 is also solid (highlighted by Ralph Kiner and Bob Elliott), with six players with OBPs over .350, and three more with SLG over .470. 1B Ted Klusziewski (drafted in 1947) begins MVP-type seasons in 1951. Most of those players will be around for a long time. In fact, batting looks really good through 1951, so, again, you can focus your future drafting and trades on future pitching and on bench hitters and pitchers for 1948.

This progressive league is like most, except that any player who started his career in a season is available to be drafted that season in the first round. In other words, for this season's 1948 draft, P Mike Garcia (30.7 WAR), SS Ray Boone (25.8 career WAR), C Stan Lopata (15 WAR), and some others started their careers -- but they are not WIS eligible until 1949 or later. A prospect (we keep a separate draft list to make it easy) joins any players you have on the DL/IR until he is WIS eligible. If you select a prospect in the first round, you can pick up your 25th player in the supplemental draft round, which occurs after the normal draft is finished. The rest is pretty standard, with 8 AAA that you select from a list of pre-1946 players or whoever remains unclaimed from 1948. We have been around for over 90 seasons, and the rules are very detailed to prevent tanking. Plus, there is a great group of owners in this 16 team league, with lots of friendly banter and plenty of trades.
