AMERICAN LEAGUE OPTIONS FOR SEASON 60:

TAKEN

AL East Franchise (formerly Burlington): This franchise was taken over by a new owner after it was abandoned the season before. Despite best efforts, the franchise finished 47-115 and last in the division. The new owner tried to stabilize things by infusing some young talent into the minor league system. However, the major league depth just isn’t/wasn’t there. As a result, they struggled in most major team categories. They were last in both team batting average and runs scored as well as fielding percentage. They were 12th in the AL in team ERA. 9 players return on contracts for only 35.5 million next season and 1 of those is an option. They have 5 players headed to arbitration. So, some roster flexibility is there to send this franchise in a new direction. They could use a steady hand to right the ship. They will have the #1 overall pick in this season's draft.

TAKEN

AL South Franchise (formerly New Orleans): This franchise dropped off from a division winner 2 seasons ago to only 70-92 and the cellar of the division this past season. Their team rankings reflect that as they were 14th in team batting average and team ERA, 15th in runs scored and only 10th in fielding percentage. 7 players return under contract for about 59 million (1 player holds an option) and 4 more heading to arbitration. They have garnered the 10th overall pick in the upcoming draft.

AND NATIONAL LEAGUE OPTIONS:

TAKEN

NL North Franchise A (formerly St. Louis): The St. Louis owner mysteriously disappeared for the last 2-3 weeks of the season, but had their team in position to fight for the playoffs. In the end, they finished 84-78 and second the division, just outside of a wild card spot. They finished 7th in team pitching ERA but lower in other categories: 11th in batting average, 13th in runs and 10th in fielding. There are only 4 players signed for a minimal 31 million, but 10 more headed to arbitration next season. They will have the 17th pick in the draft this season.

TAKEN

NL North Franchise B (formerly Augusta): This franchise is in need of a rebuild after 2 straight 100+ loss seasons, finishing 56-106 this past seasons. As a result, they were low in most team categories: Last in runs scored, 15th in average, 13th in ERA and fielding percentage. However, they only have 10.4 million committed to 2 players next season and only 9 more in arbitration. So, the ability to build and shape the roster however you want is there. They will have a chance to add an impact player at #3 in next season's draft.

TAKEN

NL East Franchise (formerly Columbus): The previous owner has retired after 10 straight division titles, 2 World Series championships and a string of 100 win seasons. This past season was another division title and a 95-67 record. A pitching based franchise, the team was 3rd in team ERA (normal for them during this stretch). They were also 3rd in fielding percentage. The offense dropped off slightly with results of 6th in runs scored and 9th in batting average. They have 14 players under contract for 76 million plus 4 more in arbitration for next season. They will receive pick #27 in the upcoming draft.

NL South Franchise (formerly Richmond): A long time owner moved on, but has left this franchise ready to compete soon. A 78-84 record last season and some young talent has them on the brink of contention. A defense and pitching type team currently, they ranked 2nd in fielding and 6th in team ERA. They could use a bat or two as they were 10th in batting average and 12th in runs scored last season. The financials are very manageable with only 6 players signed for 35 million, but decisions to be made on 15 arbitration eligible players. They will have pick #13 in next season's draft.

TAKEN

NL West Franchise (formerly Colorado Springs): A historically top franchise in this world, this club finished with a 71-91 record this season. They were disappointing in their results, but the franchise has the foundation to bounce back quickly. They were 8th and 9th respectively in batting average and runs scored. While they were 12th in ERA and fielding. They have 8 players signed for 58.5 million and 9 more young players going to arbitration. The team has pick #10 in the draft next season.

OWNER RETURNED

NL North Franchise C (formerly Detroit): This franchise needed a replacement owner in mid-season and ended up winning the division with a 89-73 record. They were fairly average across the board in team rankings. 7th in batting average and runs scored, 8th in pitching ERA but 4th in fielding percentage. They have 10 players under contract for next season, but only for 34 million. 1 of those has an option and 1 more player set for arbitration. So, plenty of player and financial flexibility. It has been left in good hands. They will also have the XXXXX player in the upcoming amateur draft. This franchise will pick at spot 22 in the next draft.
