I'm sure this subject is somewhere back in the threads, but this is my first time using Shohei Ohtani. I'm using the 2023 version and it's a non-DH league. I'd like for him to pinch-hit as much as possible. He has 132 IP, so he' really best suited out of the bullpen, but do I need to make him a 5th starter so the SIM will pinch hit him on his off days.

I had a good-hitting Jim Kaat once that I used as a reliever, and the SIM never sent him up as a pinch hitter. Now I have another team finishing up in a $70M league, and I have a Don Gullett that hit about .220. Given the low at bats and options on my bench, he pinch hits quite often. But I'm using him as a starter.

I guess I'm asking what's the best way to get the SIM to use him to hit beyond just when he' pitching.

you can't add pitchers to the pinch hitting hierarchies, so the only way to have it happen that I know of is to put all your bench hitters on rest so there's no other options

pitchers only PH if nobody else is available, they only PH for other pitchers not hitters, and RP won't PH only starters. I've tried the PH pitcher strategy in extremely low caps, it's a lot of trouble you do gain something but you give up other things.
