Big news - WIS is under new ownership Topic

Some great ideas here. For me, suggested changes:
  1. Injury recovery - obvious a problem area for most of us. IRL, recovery from an injury is largely tied to the player's age, conditioning, and attitude. Not all 25 year olds recover the same way OR at the same rate. Injury recovery ought to be tied to player's age, etc. Also - we should be able to send players nearing full recovery to the minors for a rehab assignment, and such assignments should REDUCE the injury penalty rating frequently take. IRL players DO make complete recoveries from injuries. Would be good to see more of that here.
  2. NL DH - ok - come on already!
  3. Manager settings/Player settings - I'd love to have two ways to manage how the team plays. For instance, base stealing. Maybe the manager setting is to be low risk and not steal often, BUT you have a player with a 99 speed rating (happening to me now). I'd like THAT player to run, run, run. But - if I set the manager's rating to RARE, the speedy players get throttled, too.
  4. League Leaders and HOF - it would be very helpful if the system kept track of the triple crown hitting and pitching stats at a minimum. So, you could see a player up for HOF who led the league in HR 7 times, a pitcher with league leading ERA 6 times, etc. Would give a MUCH more complete picture of the quality of a player's career. You could add saves and SB, too.

Still using the 2011 CBA. Get up to speed on amateur draft pools, international caps, free agent compensation, qualifying offers, playoff brackets, the 10 day DL, 26 man rosters and fewer September callups.

Well, now we're talking about what kind of baseball this is. HBD has long been, IMO, built as a snapshot of the kind of game that existed in 2000. It's completely skipped over the Moneyball era when everyone hit HRs, struck out all the time, and never stole bases. Now those trends have reversed, except for striking out still being wayyyyy up.

And frankly, if in HBD everyone struck out at the real life rate that exists these days, it would be a lot less interesting even on a screen than in real life.
Also, if pitchers got injured at the real life rate... can of worms. So what do you want the game to look like, anyway?

HBD is in waaaaaay better condition than the other games. Hoops Dynasty is a disaster. but either way we seem to be in much better hands than we have in many many years.

however, i can't access HBD now. runtime errors... is there a known work around? neither chrome nor firefox is helping me.

The most recent departing WIS Admin Group seem to understand and play the gridiron game more than any others. That game got the most updates during their tenure of ownership. We'll see if new ownership can get a handful of needed hbd updates. Then, maybe new ownership will focus on other games.

Despite the above being said, we still need to realize that a big part of WIS is servicing the games. Even just in hbd, many games don't get played every day so Admin needs to go in and manually push games through. This is usually due to some owners not having enough players in the minor leagues. So, even when Admin pushes the games manually, if the owner doesn't fix the initial problem, the team will just miss more games causing more work on Admin. All of this takes away from development time. If we all do a better job of managing our minor leagues, Admin will have more time to spend on development. However, if the same owners continue to have the bare minimum of 20 players per minor league squad, as soon as there are Injuries, the teams don't have enough players to run a game. It's the same owners that cause the same problems so I don't want to hear those particular owners complaining about why Admin can't find time to develop the game further.

Agree with damag that HBD has been in a time capsule for a while now. The question is, will making significant changes be more likely to bring in new players or more likely to drive away existing ones. Kind of a catch-22 that's hard to predict

This is what, the 3rd time in the past 12 years that "new ownership" or "new management" has promised "changes" and "updates"? How hard is it to just update team colors? Add a simple stat like WAR? Show more than 5 players in the Player Records and Prospect Reports? Give private leagues the option to dial back or even eliminate injuries?

I'd also propose that (new) leagues be reorganized into three divisions of 5 teams. This will structure more like 2024 MLB and reduce leagues from 32 teams to 30 teams which will quicken filling.
Except for the leagues where everybody wants to stay, as they'd have to boot 2 teams from the league. True WAR requires some additional stats that are not currently tracked - mostly on the fielding side. The hitting side, it's all there and just a formula that could be added; same with pitchers. I'm not aware of what colors are not outdated.
I can't name any of my worlds in the past few years where everyone returned. But the downsizing could be limited to new worlds and at the discretion of private world commissioners.

Cobbfather has had quite a few seasons in recent years to return all members. When it's not 100% it's typically just 1 team. Pretty decent turnover rate.

Easy add.. more sorting filters for FA, Rule 5, and FA.

For example, I like sorting pitchers by
1.) control
2.) Splits
3.) P1,P2, P3,P4 and even P5.

Just adding 1 more filter would give us 3 total. A 4th filter would be amazing.

For positional, I often sort power, splits, contact, eye, and fielding ratings in many different variations. 3rd filter would be great. And again, a 4th filter would be superduper

True, the ubiquitous defensive stats make up total WAR. They could start with oWAR. Weighted stats like wOBA, OPS+, and wRC+ would be nice if they can normalize each worlds' season stats.

It would be good the HEAR from then new owners. What, in general, is the plan? What are priorities? Which games will one discontinued, if any? Just something.

Also I forgot, importing draft board via CSV would be nice, Or at lease put input boxes next to the players draft position so we can just type in the rank.

For sure...the Cobbfather blog actually figures all those out and posts end of the season results. A bit time consuming to copy and paste every player's stats but once done the formulas do all the work. We also add in wSB.

Big announcement when new ownership took over, then nothing for the next few weeks. Same thing that has happened every other time new owners have taken over. Big announcement promising big changes/updates, then no communication for weeks, then maybe a few small changes, then silence for weeks that turn into months that turn into years.

This is starting to look like the same thing. I hope I am wrong, but I have no confidence this time will be any different than the others.
