Changes to the game Topic

Right now in discord (https://discord.gg/37jeDt3r) we are in discussion of changes we would like to see in the game.

A WIS staffer told us that when asked if it was plausible to see changes if a number of brought forth a concern, their response:

"I guess it would depend on how the list came together and who all was involved. While a few coaches may have the best intentions with updates, it may not align with the overall wishes of the community. We definitely value customer input and feedback but I cannot guarantee that proposed updates would be implemented at this time. We definitely aren't set on keeping things as they are and know that all of the games need improvements. If you want you can try to get some proposals together for staff to review."

Please name changes you would like to see that I will add to a started Google Form that we can then all vote on and get the most important topics for the community and submit.

I know it was talked about on the discord but I would love to see changing Baseline Prestige and have it visible on the history and team page. I think it needs to be hard but not impossible to turn a low major into a solid program with years and years of success. Also, some of the power schools are a coach away from putting their program on the map in real life. Maybe make the floor higher for the power schools but add the ability for all schools to increase their baseline prestige after long runs of success!

Oh and reading other team's play by plays before seeing the results. For example tourney results page much like the results page on the main page that allows you to read a game without knowing the final score. I know when I have a conference mate in a title I would like to read it.

A button that clears all AP points on recruits.

I made this argument for years, but there's too many people that want the blue blood teams to always stay top tier. It defeats the purpose of dynasty IMO though if prestige isn't dynamic. Never liked baseline prestige.

fine line between non moving baselines and allowing them to shift.

Maybe a combination of a coaches Prestige combined with the team's performance equals a combined program baseline.
Or when that coach leaves that program the baseline is really hard to maintain by a new coach.

Hard to sell HD D1 to new players if Duke and North Carolina suck and Birmingham-Southern is the job everybody wants.

I'd counter the last point by saying it's hard to sell Duke or North Carolina if they're never available. I'd also counter it's easier to sell Duke/ North Carolina if they are attainable and can be rebuilt back to glory. I'm not saying your point is wrong, but I don't think them being bad would be a deterrent to someone who wants to be at that school, who joined for that brand name.

For me, a total recruiting overhaul is needed. The coin flips bother most people. The idea that if you lose a flip you cannot recover and go to plan B with no $$ left is a problem. I've always said a team shouldget half it's money back if they lose a flip. It's just not realistic that an major conf team would have to take walk-ons while a smart D2 team is about to protect their D1 recruits from getting poached by them.

And maybe there are too many stud internationals in comparison to real life?

And top 10 incoming freshmen should be more comparible to real life in terms of immediate impact.

I think the current real life transfer protocol stuff is a poison and I do hope we stay away from that for now.

Those are my thoughts!! I'm excited about new ownership as Hoops really has been neglected for far too long.

Cheers.

Oh yeah, the firing coaches idea wasn't a bad one. People hogging high prestige teams without getting Sweet 16 appearances isn't realsitic.

This is absolutely hilarious, because several months ago when the last flare up about the state of HD was brought up and >I< pitched the idea of putting together all the suggestions for WIS to look through, ownership pretty much hand waved and said "we already have all that stuff." So yea, not surprised they did an about face on that. Partly why I left the HD Discord; was an unmoderated echo chamber.

Fortunately, as of today, there's new ownership. Aidos to the former, I say. They did very little to nothing, besides keeping the lights on and ghostlighting the player base.

A few suggestions I would like to see:

1) Conference realignment. There has been so much over the last few years that the conferences in HD are no longer anywhere near real life. I know it can’t be perfect but something a little closer to the current alignment would be nice to see.

2) Ability to hire a couple of assistant coaches who would have various skills/perks and experience levels that could boost player development.

3) Perhaps a bit more weight to player preferences in recruiting to aid the smaller programs a bit. It seems a power school automatically beats out a small school even when the small school has “very good” in multiple categories and the power school doesn’t match any of their preferences. These should have a bit more meaning IMHO.

4) A list of available transfers in the back half of recruiting rather than just having to rely on them contacting you to know they are out there.

I do agree baseline prestige should be available to see for all schools, that way everyone knows what they are getting into.

While I believe there could be some improvements to prestige, like a larger scale a team can go up or down in prestige, but I don't think New Mexico St should be the same as say Syracuse.

I agree on number 3. It seems like the player preferences are too small and can easily be outweighed by prestige.

I don't think recruiting needs a major overhaul, but losing a battle can be damaging to a coach. I am on a streak where in the last 4 seasons I have lost almost all my battles, and I will add that about 90 percent of those battles I had the advantage, now I went from a top 16 quality team to maybe the worst team in my conference, in my opinion there needs to be a system like you said get money back from recruiting, and also maybe a better split of late round recruits to help salvage your recruiting season. I lost my top 2 battles this season where I had 65 and 58 percent chance to win, now I only have enough money for 1 recruit in the late battle, that won't be enough to salvage my season.

For me, I'd ask why? Not every elite program today was always elite. Not every elite program from the old days is still elite. Without the ability to build say a New Mexico to the level of Syracuse, what's the point of building a dynasty if you're capped? This feels more like king of the hill rather than dynasty unless the only dynasty that matters are those already at the top.

Personally I'd like to see a large window of years considered with the most recent years holding the most weight in the prestige calculation. I think 15-20 seasons would be great for a built-in security blanket to prevent any team from dropping too fast and would prevent a team from rising too fast so any equal prestige level would be very gradual and would ultimately feel natural for those who've been around for that period of time. I think the hiring and firing logic needs to be significantly revamped as well though.

In real life schools like New Mexico St do not have the budget that your elite schools have, their is appeal to schools like Syracuse have over New Mexico St that are not reflected in hoops dynasty. If your going to make it so any school can have a top baseline prestige then I think you should give money to each school based on the school. Syracuse should get for example 5k for each scholarship while New Mexico St might get 2k.

Lower level college football teams will play a school like Notre Dame, because they will get more money in that 1 game with Notre Dame than the rest of their entire schedule.
