Punter to kicker question? Topic

So I never carry a kicker on my wayne State team in Stagg.....punters in fact, kick pretty good....except on kickoffs....coming short of the goal line quite often in that situation resulting in good field position for the opponent. Has anyone ever recruited a punter and converted him to kicker his freshmen year? If so was the ****** kickoff problem solved by doing this or is it not worth it....cant seem to find an actual kicker is why Im asking

peace

To add....I have a punter already I grabbed last season. I'm not talking about converting the punter I already have but the one I'm recruiting right now to kicker. Yes I do know that kickers suck punting...LOL

I don't know if it wise or smart but I do the opposite I carry a k but not a punter and have noticed my punts sometimes are shanks while other time are boomers. But in my opinion some short punts are worth having to get that extra roster spot for a skilled player.

I just recruited 2 p and converted one to kicker. I'll let you know how it goes.

If you are converting a freshman Punter to Kicker, or vice versa, his Strength will remain unchanged but he will lose approximately 15% of his GI and Technique. Formation IQ is not impacted.

Work ethic will actually increase if you have one or fewer players already on the roster at the player's new position.

If you are coverting an older player, then the loss at GI and Tech becomes more severe, though Strength and F.IQ still remain unchanged.

If I am taking over a new team and I inherit multiple Kickers and zero Punters - or vice versa - I almost always convert the extra Kicker/Punter to the other empty specialist position because their Formation IQ advantage over a new recruit at that position is usually significant enough to help reduce the return TDs that they would give up. I might also recruit a new Kicker/Punter who will eventually be better than the converted player, but at least my recruit won't have to play as a freshman and won't give up all those return TDs. And my new recruit will still see their Work Ethic grow, even though they aren't playing, as long as they are #2 on the depth chart. That's a lesser-known feature of being in the Top 2 on the depth chart.

I have found that P will make a better K than K as a P. My P has always came threw filling in for a K. Putting 10 or 15 practice K helps a P too

since when does a player gain WE if listed as #2 on the depth chart while not playing?

I don't know for how long this has been happening, but if you have a freshman Kicker or Punter at #2 on your depth chart, his Work Ethic will grow that Fr. season even if he never plays a snap.

My observation bro's is like every other position, K/P works better when you recruit a K/P. One trick though is, if you're stuck with a sim QB, you can convert him to a P (sit him for a year) and he will be decent for the next three years.
