Just curious...if anyone has access to the stats of all of the WISC's over the years: Of the 24 individuals who make it to Round Two, what's the farthest someone has climbed up the ranks to win the whole thing?
I can tell you that last year I finished tied for 12th after Round 1 regular season with 535 wins and four playoff teams. (As an aside - with one game to go, I am currently sitting 12th with 530 wins and four confirmed playoff teams - bonus points for consistency??)
Anyways, I was beyond confident I was making Round 2. But then I proceeded to win three games total among those four playoff teams that were all obviously eliminated in the first round. I then watched in horror as all the owners below me slowly crept up with continued playoff wins. I ended up sliding to 25th and would have missed the cage. However, unfortunately marinerott was not able to continue and I snuck in as an alternate.
To your question, I then entered the second round in dead last. However, I was the only one in Round 2 to field 5 playoff teams and I had moved from 24th to 6th. With moderate playoff success I still had a good chance at the title. However, those teams flamed out similar to the Round 1 squads.
But takeaways - there are still lots of people in the running for the cage. Playoffs do matter. And, as long as you end up making the cage everyone still has a chance to win.
