Offense Heavy Build in Open League? Topic

Recently discovered SimLeague baseball. Really fun! Just finished making my 4th team and will probably stop there to see how they play out.

I decided to try a build where I spent $50 mil on offense and only $30 mil on pitching. Focused on AVG# and HR/100AB# in my lineup. Just wondering if anyone else has tried something like this and how you think it might work out?

not good

the cheapest PAs seem to me to be SB, XBH, and BB

i guess if you can find a park that rewards AVG & HR

it could definitely work, although home run heavy teams can be cheaply neutralized by deadball pitching so you may be in a bit of trouble depending on opponents,

using normalized HRs and not just blindly taking modern 40 HR guys who normalize poorly should help too

Can offer a better opinion if you post your staff and park. There are many ways to win in the SIM

My first-ever Open League team was built similarly. I did it that way because it kind of mirrored fantasy baseball strategy of 60/40 batters to pitchers. That team got throttled; I think they went 63-99 at SD Stadium. 1987 Will Clark was our star, if I recall, but our pitching got lit up and fatigued badly. Your results may vary but SD Stadium should have helped my pitchers but obviously it didn't.
Good luck, though. Partly depends on who you're up against, too.

There are SOOOOO many ways to Win in WIS and some guys on here really have it figured out but it is doubtful you will come up w/ a strategy someone else has not tried....

My opinion, assuming you are in an open league is the following:
  • You may run into guys who simply clone / copy cookie teams in an open league. Thats not fun to me and they will be tough to beat.
  • Other than Ruth and a couple of others, I never focus on HRs......most do not normalize well and a couple of deadballers or the AstroDome and you are toast.
  • The 1970s guys (other than certain pitchers) always underperform for me regardless of the park.
  • If you only spent $30m on pitching, not knowing who you picked, You either dont have a stopper or he will fatigue and I would bet you will get lit up and will not be able to outscore other teams.
  • Good Luck and Enjoy.
