Commissioners - Draft Pool List Tool Here Topic

*Updated versions at bottom of the thread*

Hello commissioners, I know that creating an available player list for progressive drafts can be a pain and time consuming. I created a tool that hopefully can help. Type in the year you want, copy and paste keeper lists and then you get an list of available players for your given year.

Here is the link for the tool in Google sheets. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1h9gmpY87jqtGRwqQYalzACitUTWHHgqhO8z5DSXCIo4/edit?usp=sharing

For anyone that has not used Google sheets, you will need to be logged into your Google account and make a copy of the sheet to use.

Right now this is for pitchers. I am planning on releasing one for hitters soon. This is also my first attempt at using SQL/Query, also at using any language at all. I would appreciate any feedback from any experienced SQL users.

This is great - I’ll look and see if I can get it to work and give any feedback. You should post this in the SLB forum as well - most owners only check the classifieds if they’re looking for new teams but could get a lot of good feedback

Here is the link for the hitters version of the tool:

These will only work in Google sheets and not work in Excel since it uses a query function that Excel does not support.

Thanks for the suggestion chargingryno, I will post it in the SLB forum as well.

I have updated the data for the 2022 season. I removed a lot of unused columns in the historical data to process faster. I also added the option of pasting horizontal lists. Please let me know if anything isn't working. Once again remember to use Google sheets. To use it you need to make a copy by going to "File" -> "Make a copy".

(WiS has not released the spreadsheet data with pitcher Shohei Ohtani yet)

Great work. I’ve made a few additions on my copy of your original as well and can post when I’m back to my computer. Added a way to sort out rookies and highlight them, as well as pulling stats for each player (hitters I have PA, BA, OBP, SLG, OPS, and Salary - pitchers I have IP, ERA, ERC, OAV, WHIP, HR9, Salary)

fwiw...I did this for 2010 recently and a few hitters didn't show up as available (griffey jr, ausmus, k.matsui among others).

regardless, this is still a ridiculously helpful tool.

I checked 2010 on a clean version, I did not see the same missing players. Could you share out a link of the spreadsheet with missing players and I can take a look at it.

Spreadsheets have been updated for 2024 players. You will need to make new copies to have the 2024 data. These will only work in Google sheets and not work in Excel since it uses a query function that Excel does not support. For anyone that has not used Google sheets, you will need to be logged into your Google account and make a copy of the sheet to use. Please post any problems you encounter or any suggestions you have.

I am looking for 1 or 2 commissioners to help test quite an updated version of this. Each team will have a spreadsheet tab with their rosters. After initial rosters are loaded, type in a draft year and your draft pool is automatically created. Players in the draft pool have drop down options for which team drafting them. Selecting a team automatically adds them to that teams roster. At the end of the season, there are drop down options to keep, cut or DL a player.

Commissioners can post one spreadsheet link in their private forums. All owners can click on the same link but will only have access to make their keeps/cuts (This requires getting Gmail addresses from owners). Once keepers and cuts have been made, the next year draft pool is automatically created.

All names, years and counts below are automatically created. The only inputs are the drop down menus. Here are some screenshots of what the tool looks like so far (Right click and open image in a new tab for better viewing):

The draft pool auto-created and with drop down menu for who is drafting them.

Please sitemail if you are interested in help testing this.

Thanks,

profcake
