Well, that was over 20 years ago.

What possessed you to come here after years away to slam on old LNF? Just curious.
eh, wasn't trying to slam him. Some folks act like there is only one Bible. I personally own and use The King James Version but I'd guess most evangelicals use something else.

So, I'm always curious as to which Bible is being referred to when scripture is mentioned...
KJV rocks. My commentary is the Living Bible Paraphrased. and welcome back
Now THAT is what I'm talking about when I think of an evangelical Bible. I've never read Living Bible Paraphrased but thank you for answering.

KJV - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
TLB - For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son so that anyone who believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

For some reason, Taylor decided to drop the verb beget. I think that's a rather important distinction for young people of today to understand that Jesus was of the body (begotten) rather than some form of non-biological legal filiation, like adoption.

Both translations are telling us the same thing, but I agree with the comment on 'begat' thing is, we can so picky, we can forget the real goal. as in: What is God saying here? The 74 in my handle is the year I was saved. BUT, sometimes I wonder.. because when I was about 15, I read John 3:16 on a bus poster.. and I read it over and over and... until it sunk in. Of course, I believed it, but didn't venture any further.. for the next 13 years. Maybe I was saved in 33 ad, and my arrival was just a matter of when and where

My first Bible was the L. B. Par.' but someone pointed me to the KJV, so I went and got one, and I was hooked after an hour in it. Reading aloud from it can be tricky at times because of the wording. I have to go slow. at times, not to trip over my tongue. You probably get what I mean

IMO. You need to read less, comprehend better, and walk according to the guidance you get revealed to you.
Your "Christian" walk is an example the Devil points out to others.
You are an example he constantly points out as a Christian.
It helps his cause to show non-believers Christian behavior such as yours.
Makes them want NO PART of such Christianity.

The Early Modern English takes a bit to adjust to but it's not THAT far removed from what we speak today.

Raised Southern Baptist.

At about the age of 18, I realized that organized religion was a bunch of crap. Now, I am agnostic at best leaning towards atheism. However, I read the Bible as the great work that it is, regardless of whether I believe the message as a true gospel...doesn't detract from the lessons that can be learned.

I cannot agree more with this post.
The Old Testament is absolute beautiful literature and would rank above Shakespeare and any other eternal work of art even if it was presented as such from the beginning. As allegory and poetry and moral evolution it is stunning.

In total seriousness I wish that a group of humanists and SCifi writers and scholars and poets etc produced a new chapter that might advance to before the birth of Jesus. The eventual misuse of his life and all that followed would be a chapter with aspects contained in all chapters of the Jewish civilization and its spiritual journey and continued angst.
I would imagine the inner turmoils of living in those times coupled with the continued yearning of a god connected civilization.

And then more chapters to follow. The AD chapter in my series would depict Jesus as a man crucified in the ongoing evolution of a civilization that some tried to bring in the enemy of the civilization.
The original keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
That chapter and ones that followed would then be a poetic god-absent history following true history like an odyssey and illayad with all of the angst and revelation of mistakes and failures and eternal hope.

Hi gomiami..how goes it?
Better now. I was sick for almost 18 months but have been slowly getting back into the WIS routine. How are you doing?

One of these days, we'll need to get into the same Hardball Dynasty world.
my health is not great, and unfortunately it's not gonna get any better. Oh well, it is what it is.

I hear ya and I'm sorry. I remember taking my health for granted when I was young. I don't take anything for granted these days. Like you said, it is what it is.

I think that if extreme measures are not taken around the world that the war against extreme climate change will be lost.
My gut feeling is that extreme climate change is going to win and the world is going to be f*ck*d up the ozone .
Climate change is not of a temporal nature. Once it crosses a line it becomes the climate and it keeps expanding.

I hope that those with god knows why anti science anti social rants abut how it is all a hoax or just a natural “season” stay home and do the rest of any of us with concerns - a favor.

7/10/2023 10:24 AM (edited)
Can't do that. Climate Change/Gobal Warming is a belief system, not science...a religion with Environmentalism as its God.

Totalitarians always have some cause where they claim "extreme measures" are justified. I'm not saying you are a totalitarian but the cabal of elitists pushing this garbage certainly are. All they want is power, wealth and absolute control. There is an army of intelligent, compassionate people out there, like you, who are, as Ludwig von Mises described, acting like useful idiots...pushing these Climate Change "extreme measures" tenets and, at the same time, pushing all of us right into bondage.

The elites will never stop burning oil, will never stop eating meat, will never adopt any of the "extreme measures" that will be enacted into law. That will be for the rest of us, the new serfs.
