1988 Rickey Henderson went wild on the basepaths in a recent game in an $80M theme league.

First plate appearance: walks, steals 2nd.
Second plate appearance: singles, steals 2nd and 3rd.
Third plate appearance: walks, no steal (slowpoke teammate on 2nd clogging things up)
Fourth plate appearance: singles, steals 2nd and 3rd.
Fifth plate appearance: hits into a fielder's choice, steals 2nd and 3rd.

So far he's 7/7 stealing.

Now we go to the bottom of the 9th, Rickey's team trailing 8-7, one out, nobody on.

Sixth plate appearance: walks, steals 2nd, 3rd AND home to tie the game!

So Rickey goes 10/10 on the basepaths, including that clutch steal of home in the 9th, and the Player of the Game goes to...Rickey's teammate who knocked in a single run the whole game (the winning run, but still).

Rickey: "Hey, Player of the Game decider, this is Rickey calling on behalf of Rickey. Rickey was robbed!"

Believe It or Don't!

wow, now that's something i haven't seen before.

Yeah, that's pretty awesome.

In a $110M theme league I'm in (injuries off) I've given my 0% mop quite a few starts to give the rest of my staff a breather. In the PM cycle, he threw 8 innings and gave up 15 runs (much better than he usually does -- his ERA is over 30!). I started all my backup and tired scrub batters (the 1-2-3 hitters, for example, were at 43, 59 and 80%), whereas my opponent fielded only 100% batters and pitchers.

The result — a 16-15 win for the scrubs!

Same pitcher as in the above post, 1922 Allen Sothoron. Still at 0%, ERA still over 30. This time out he's used in relief, coming to the mound in the 11th inning of a tie game because we've used up all our other Allen Sothorons (that's the theme). How'd he do?

To steal a quip from the late newspaper scribe Bugs Baer: "Allen S. Sothoron pitched his initials off!"

Walter Johnson's last two seasons in a progressive. 100 wins in two years, believe it or don't!

0% Allen Sothoron (from two and three posts back) is STILL working his magic, this time in the playoffs.

Final score was 21-20 in 11 innings!

Warren Spahn update: His 1960 progressive season is now in the books. Spahn had an off year (for him), going 23-15 with a 4.24 ERA, but he kept the streak alive. 14 consecutive seasons with 20 or more wins (and 300 or more IP)!

1961 is done, and Spahn went 32-13 en route to winning his 8th Cy Young award. 15 consecutive seasons with 20 or more wins (and 300 or more IP)!

Probably easy enough to believe, I guess... but a feat nonetheless.

I just completed a season with 3B Jack Crooks (1893) as my catcher. I wasn't expecting a total disaster, though, as he did actually have a catcher rating of D-/C/A

In 162 games he only had 21 errors. Not too shabby... until you notice the 132 passed balls.

In game 104, after 47 1/3 IP and 30 saves, Mariano Rivera (for me) gives up his first run of the season in an 87M Theme League.

Another gem of a season for Warren Spahn in the 1962 season of my progressive: he wins his 9th Cy Young, and continues his streak of seasons with at least 20 wins/300 innings pitched (now at 16 straight).

That Spahn run is ridiculous, how has the team done during his career? Also find it interesting how you're using him, getting him tons of appearances every season.

He's been on the team from 1946-62, and we've had just one rebuilding spell, losing 100+ four years in a row from 1954-57. Otherwise the team's been a contender, making the playoffs 8 times (including this season, playoffs haven't started yet), winning 4 WS and losing 3 WS.

He's got one more decent season left, then two bad ones. With some micromanaging and a bit of luck I might be able to get him to 500 career wins.

This statline is just funny to me. Been on here for a decade and I’ve never seen it before.

I’ll see how long it continues with the Solo HRs being his only source for RBI trend

My 2016 prog team has been on a bit of a rollercoaster this season. We're the defending champs, and I figured we had another playoff team on our hands, but at the trade deadline we were about 10 games back of the division leader, and 8 games back of the wild card team. We tried to sell off as many players as possible but only managed to deal our closer for a draft pick. Naturally, as soon as the deal went through we immediately embarked upon a winning streak against some very good teams, and after 11 straight W's found ourselves tied with the wild card team.

Our next opponent was a last place team (39-107) starting Edison Volquez (3-22, 10.66 ERA) against us. Needless to say, we felt fairly confident the win streak would continue. It did not.
