Not having the Raspberries on there is a startling omission...

I love the raspberries they are great power pop they don’t have a Beatles sound to me but I will add them with a few others I forgot.... I guess I should think of the raspberries as beatlesish. I agree.

Oasis??? Liam idolized John.

If you're gonna out Dave Clark 5 on there, might as well put Hermans Hermits and Gerry and the Pace Makers.

Bowie way too original to be considered derivative of anybody IMO.

Unless you wanna go back to crooners like Sinatra.

You are so right. An unintended omission.

Excellent point and the exact rationale that almost kept him off. I put him on anyway but I absolutely feel your point. Perfectly said.

Dave Clark did their own songs and were true early rivals.

Some of the artists like Elvis Costello and Bowie and Queen are originals and not derivative but they have Beatles DNA.

Not sure I agree. Elvis C, Freddy Mercury, these performers had such tremendous talent first of all. When you say DNA, I'm thinking of that undefinable (and certainly original) amalgam that John, Paul, George and Ringo were able to forge while learning their craft in places like Hamburg. This led to a whole new art form. The 3 minute pop record. The "band" concept, genius and revolutionary recording techniques, gorgeous harmony, and of course new techniques on the electric guitar. These later artists definitely benefitted from the Fab 4 forging a new path but still stand on their own.

You can't overlook that the Fab 4 had to curtail their live performances almost completely by the time they'd become famous. Those others really shone on the stage. ESPECIALLY Queen.

If you wanna talk shared DNA, I'd go more with the other holy grail groups like the Stones, Who, Kinks, maybe Zeppelin.

OK. What's your favorite Beatle song?

I'll make it a little easier. Pre Rubber Soul/Revolver and post.
