Amazing guilty pleasure list by dino, inspired me to do a Guilty Pleasures, Part II --

Something Stupid -- Frank & Nancy Sinatra
Bend Me Shape Me -- American Breed
Kiss From A Rose -- Seal
Are You Gonna Be My Girl -- Jet
Life In A Northern Town -- Dream Academy
Balls to the Wall -- Accept
Never Been Any Reason -- Head East
My Sharona -- The Knack
Itchycoo Park -- Small Faces
Ride Captain Ride -- Blues Image
Closer to Home -- Grand Funk Railroad
Vehicle -- Ides of March
Can't Get Enough -- Bad Company
Smoke on the Water -- Deep Purple
State of Shock -- Michael Jackson & The Rolling Stones
Hot Legs -- Rod Stewart & Tina Turner
I Think We're Alone Now -- Tommy James & The Shondells
Gimme Gimme Good Lovin' -- Crazy Elephant
Hot Smoke & Sassafras -- Bubble Puppy
Love Will Keep Us Together -- Captain & Tennille
The Lion Sleeps Tonight -- The Tokens
Sweet Pea --Tommy Roe
Waterloo -- Abba
Venus -- Shocking Blue
Judy in Disguise -- John Fred & His Playboy Band
Last Kiss -- J. Frank Wilson
I'm So Excited -- The Pointer Sisters
Don't Leave Me This Way -- Donna Summer
98.6 -- Keith
Western Union -- The Five Americans
Cinnamon -- Tommy Roe
In-A-Gadda-da-Vidda -- Iron Butterfly
Little Children -- Billy J. Kramer & The Dakotas

Dino may contest some of these, especially Itchycoo Park. But it's really kind of dopey, while the Small Faces' Tin Soldier (the version with PP Arnold) is one of the greatest rock songs ever recorded. And I'm giving you a pass on Back in the Saddle, a rocker I enjoy without any guilt.

Ride Captain Ride is an all time favorite of mine.

I love many of these songs listed under "guilty pleasures" and I don't feel guilty letting people know. One other comment...my definition of "rock stars" certainly differs from others. That's what makes it interesting! My 2 lists are just from those already listed in the last 2-3 pages. I will create my own lists in the next few days but will need to be broken down to keep from being so much at a time. I enjoy a lot of different genres and eras...although I will say my percentage of "liked songs" goes down starting in the late 1990's. No one is right or wrong...it's all about what you enjoy.

"Not Guilty" Pleasures of mine

Fire Woman - The Cult
Run To The Hills (Iron Maiden)
She Sells Sanctuary (The Cult)
Never Been Any Reason -- Head East
My Sharona -- The Knack
Vehicle -- Ides of March
Can't Get Enough -- Bad Company
Smoke on the Water -- Deep Purple
Gimme Gimme Good Lovin' -- Crazy Elephant
Venus -- Shocking Blue
Judy in Disguise -- John Fred & His Playboy Band
In-A-Gadda-da-Vidda -- Iron Butterfly
Back in the Saddle - Aerosmith
Girls..Girls....Girls - Motley Crew (Went to "Tattle Tales" in Atlanta a couple times back when it was popular.
Jump - Van Halen
Just Dropped In (First Edition)
You Keep Me Hanging On (Vanilla Fudge)
Kicks (Paul Revere & The Raiders)

Now to those I don't consider rock stars:

Justin Timberlake
WHAM!
Christina Aguilera
Spice Girls
Katy Perry

Tru dat. I meant them as the pleasures of those listed alongside them. Probly could've done a better job with the formating. The point was that even true kool kids have guilty moments, and an encouragement to many watching but yet to post their flavors to not let an elitist or two; ok maybe just 1, get in their way of joining the fun. I have my faves and would never deny anyone theirs, and am very pleasantly sprised and a credit to some diversity that could have even a stronger showing we have yet to mention Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Who, U2, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Bryan Adams, Lionel Ritchie etc including many many more from the wallflowers, nor offerings of top instrumentalists or songwriters (Whitney never did her own stuff and while she could pick [or have them picked for her] and belt them, Mariah was a double threat with her own stuff and for that will always be queen) or producers or genre defining moments or backstorys. Maybe soon, but till then, dip your toe in the water. It warms up quick.

My List of Notable Albums of 2020
albums that get my fulsome endorsement
no critics darlings or boring pretentious hypes
just really good stuff.
no particular order.

1. The Pretenders - Hate for Sale
2. Bob Dylan - Rough and Rowdy Ways
3. Mamalarky - Mamalarky
4. X - Alphabetville
5. Brandy Clark - Your Life is a Record
6. Elvis Costello - Hey Clockface
7. Aubrey Sellers - Far From Home
8. Bruce Springsteen - Letter to You
8. Fiona Apple - Fetch Your Bolt Cutters
9. Fontaines DC - A Hero’s Death
10. En Attendant Ana - Juliet
11. Paul McCartney - McCartney 3

my criteria is tough for a list like this. These are all great albums.
The Springsteen album is extraordinary. This is a perfect album and one of his vital albums. It could easily fit into the late 70s Springsteen. And very electrified Dylanesque....I don’t know who post 70 years of age can put out a rock album like this except of course Bob Dylan and probably Chrissey Hynde - she is 69 and still prime and one day Elvis Costello when he gets there.

It goes without saying that one person’s ceiling is another person’s floor but to my taste and point of view when one finds there to only be 11 great rock albums in a year and only 5 are artists that started in the past 10 years 6/11 started before 1980 the state of new music is dire.

The artist AKA Japanese Breakfast is releasing her third album later this year. If she puts it all together and reaches her potential it will be a great psychedelic indie pop gem and Japanese Breakfast will be at the top of the heap for indie albums in 2021. I heard one song and I was impressed. The album is called Jubilee.

This may be a little off topic but I was having a discussion with a friend the other day about which country, USA or the UK, has produced the best Rock N Roll. He said USA, I say it's the Brits!

What do you all think?
