I'd probably in a very small minority on this website......I listen to extreme metal genres(tech death, black, OSDM)
Welcome and I know there are others.

While i do like those bands those are not as heavy as what i am talking about. Slipknot puts on an amazing concert!

I don't listen to enough new music, so I'll go with classic bands and artists that are like new because a lot of people haven't heard of them -- The Undertones, The Groundhogs, Pretty Things, Karen Dalton, the Flirtations, Roky Erickson, The Misunderstood, Gun Club, Rory Gallagher, Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger & Trinity and Humble Pie. For starters.

That’s some mighty good stuff.
the undertones - wow one of my favorites. Their debut album in my opinion was in top 7 of 1979 and that year had London Calling and Armed Forces.
Teenage Kicks is just one of the most perfect crafted pop songs ever.
if The Pretty Things are good enough for David Bowie they are good enough for me.
Karen Dalton is eclectic. Bluesy and folksy from late 60s on. Compelling singer.
Roky Erickson walked with zombies into rock and roll eternity.
I do remember The Gun Club always on my favorite college radio station.

good stuff!

Lots of rich folk blues there. You say your list is "for starters" and 'not enough new music'. Combining the two with a slant toward more recent recognition, can I guess/hope your next wave includes Joanna Newsom ? She grew up down the road from us in NorCal plus was back page fodder at the time in some of my Grammy voting dad's industry mags.

Some serious guitar players in that list. Humble Pie gave us Peter Frampton. When they asked Jimi Hendrix if he was the best around, he said he'd defer to Rory Gallagher!

I've recently gotten back into Steely Dan. Your favorite band's favorite band. Not a bad song in the bunch.

The new Asphyx album is really good. Nothing they haven't done before, but not too many do it better.

His studio albums never did much for me, but Rory Gallagher absolutely tears it up live. Live in Europe and Irish Tour '74 are incredible.

I did not care for them that much during their time, but in the last year or two, I came to appreciate and enjoy their songs. Not only their singles, but so many more.

Anyone ever heard of Stereophonics? They never made it big in the USA for some reason, but they have a more diverse sound than Oasis.
