From the same prog in the above post, my team just lost its third straight World Series. Nevertheless, our star Joe Dimaggio continued to pad his prodigious WS stats, hitting 5 HR and knocking in 12 runs in a 7-game series. The following are his numbers from 8 WS appearances in this prog:

47 games
84 hits, 11 doubles, 6 triples, 20 HR
54 runs, 68 rbi
.408/.466/.811

20 World Series HR! In real life, Mickey Mantle holds the record with 18 HR.

Believe It or Don't!

P.S. In this prog, second most WS HR belongs to Babe Ruth, who hit 14 in 42 games. Has anyone ever seen more than 20 WS HR in a prog?
Just wrapped up another World Series in this prog, with Dimaggio coming through big again, helping us win it all by batting in 7 runs in Game 7.

1950 is Joe's last good year, so this might be the final update on his post-season heroics. Note that all stats below are from the World Series (no other playoff rounds in this prog yet):

That's 9 total World Series, with 6 championship rings.

54 World Series games, so you can easily convert that to full-season rates by multiplying by three: 69 HR, 243 RBI, etc.

Dan Casey picks up his 10th win. We are 24 games into the season, folks.

He's also had 2 no decisions in his 12 starts. In both he held opponents scoreless.

Here's a wacky one from an 80M theme league. We enter the 10th inning tied 1-1, but we've been outhit 10-1. Our lone hit was a single, incidentally. Among our opponent's 10 hits are two doubles and a triple.

Top of the 10th, the visitors crank out three more singles to go up 2-1. At this point they're outhitting us 13-1.

Bottom of the 10th, our bats finally wake up. Walk, double, pair of singles, it's over. We win 3-2.

Violations of theme league rules may result in a $500,000 fine per violation and/or game forfeiture.

Has anyone ever had to write a check for this? Sheesh, seems a bit harsh. I thought it was only a game...

In the category of "why you should never use the waiver wire based on perceived underperformance" here's 1988 Dwight Gooden in a progressive:

-- Shelled in his first start, 5 R in 4 2/3.
-- Ekes out a win in his second start, allowing 11 hits and 5 runs in 6 innings
-- Proceeds to go 0-9 in his next 13 appearances (all starts). Including one games where he lasts just 1/3 of an inning, 6 hits, 2 walks, 7 runs.
-- After 15 starts he is 1-10, ERA of 7.19
-- In his next 15 starts he goes 13-1, 2.97.
-- Through 150 games he is now 14-11, 4.99

Hard Luck Finish Dept.

A team in my 2007 progressive entered the last day of the season with 94 wins needing a win against their 43-118 opponent to clinch the wild card. They took a 29-9 beating. All 10 pitchers who appeared in the game gave up runs, and none of the 10 were below 98%.

Play-in game, same team now has their ace starting, who's 16-3 and #1 in Cy Young voting. He lasts only three innings, gives up 9 runs, his worst outing of the season (and drops to #2 in Cy Young voting). The relievers, all rested, bring gasoline to the fire and give up 11 more runs. The team loses 20-7.

49 runs given up in two must win games by a 94-win team with rested arms.

Casey now 18-1 through 56 games. A bunch of no decisions has slowed him. Still, 25 QS in 28 starts. Only once has he not gone at least 6 innings.

56 games in and after 14 starts, 2015 Zack Greinke is outslugging Piazza, Sheffield, Bellinger, and Kemp on my 25 consecutive Dodgers team. Only MannyWood has him beat!

Greinke has a slash line of .400/.405/.475 while playing at Dodger Stadium!

It wasn’t even his highest BA on the season as 4 starts earlier, he was batting .424!!!
