No, I agree that they aren't prostitutes. I also wouldn't die on the sword that their acting in the movies was them prostituting themselves. I believe that it was, but I can see the argument that it wasn't as well.

But in porn both actors get paid? Who is the prostitute? Both of them?
Yes, they are both being paid to have sex. By definition, they are both prostituting themselves.
WHO'S THE JOHN?!?!
I have ignored this question because you are trying to change the definition. If you are being paid to have sex, you are a prostitute by definition. I have posted the definition like 10 times already.
Yeah, I can read. My point is that the one line definition of prostitute isn't all encompassing. Simple definitions aren't intended to be rules.

For instance, the definition of prostitute on Merriam-Webster is:

to offer indiscriminately for sexual intercourse especially for money

Porn actors DO NOT "offer indiscriminately for sexual intercourse." If I show up at Tori Black's house with a briefcase full of money, she isn't going to have sex with me.

And the definition of Sexual Intercourse (MW) is:

1: heterosexual intercourse involving penetration of the vagina by the ***** :COITUS
2: intercourse (such as anal or oral intercourse) that does not involve penetration of the vagina by the *****

Yet, people who give hand-jobs for money are engaging in prostitution despite not meeting the definition of sexual intercourse.

So, instead of focusing so hard on a simple, one-line definition, try using your brain.
I'm not focusing on one line definitions. I'm using common sense. Prostitution is sex for money. Porn stars are being paid to have sex. They are prostituting themselves. They are not being paid to act. Nobody gives a **** about their acting. Saying that Tori Black would reject you if you showed up at her house is a bad argument. A prostitute in Vegas would probably reject you as well if you randomly showed up at their house. Tori Black would probably be more likely to reject as I assume she has less need for the money.

Whether you work in a brothel or for a porn company, you are going to work to have sex.
You are focusing on the definition. You even "posted the definition like 10 times already."
I am focusing on the definition. You are 100% correct. The whole point of my argument is that by definition, pornography is a form of prostitution. I brought it up again because you argued a while back that Stormy Daniels was not a prostitute. My point was that made a career out of having sex for money. So, yes she was a prostitute.

I am not focusing on the one-line definition. I do understand that the scope is broader than this. I am using the one-line definition as the base of the argument.
Let's look at it another way.

Group A is all people whose jobs incorporate sex in one way or another.

That's a pretty big group.

All prostitutes fall within group A. But group A is not all prostitutes. Prostitutes are a subgroup within A. Other subgroups within A: strippers, models, porn stars, non-porn actors, novelists, therapists, etc.

And there's crossover within those groups. Some traditional actors do porn. Some porn stars also work as prostitutes, etc. But that's crossover between groups, not merging of two groups into one.
Slide strippers and porn stars over to the other side of group A and I agree with you. If you are having sex for payment, you are prostituting yourself. I'm not sure why this bothers you so much. You've already said that sex isn't a big deal to you. That's fine. You're more than entitled to that view.

The only reason that I can see that would make you care about the distinction is because one form of prostitution is illegal in most places and very dangerous and one is legal and regulated for the women's safety.

To go along with your definition game, by definition prostitution is illegal in California. Pornography made in California is not illegal, therefore, by definition, pornography is not prostitution.

Yeah, I've always found that stupid. Why would you make one legal and outlaw the other? They are the same thing. The only difference is a camera.

Strippers aren't prostitutes, either. Dancing naked on stage isn't prostitution.

Haha. Because we all know that California's legislature is always right. They never get anything wrong.

This is getting boring. I will never understand why it bothers you so much that it is the same thing. We have spent the last 5 pages going around in circles over something that is actually pretty irrelevant to anything. Even if I were to concede that they are different, it's not like one is more classy or honorable of a profession than the other.

I really don't understand why this topic always gets you so worked up.

I'm not any more worked up over this than anything else we argue about.
3/13/2019 2:10 PM
Haha. Oh well. Doesn't change the fact that we just spent 5 pages on a really dumb argument. Lol. Got to pass the time somehow I guess.

I mean...are you new here?

Joking but really...arguments about the dumbest stuff can stretch for a hundred pages in here. And I say that fully admitting I've been right in the middle of those multiple times.

bad luck wants all prostitution legalized and taxed at 99%.

when I was single many years ago, if I was interested in having sex with a woman I was dating, I would take her to a nice dinner first. Essentially paying her for sex. Was she a prostitute?
No. I am sure the girl didn't go to dinner with in exchange for sex. You probably thought, "man, if I take her to her to a nice restaurant I am sure to get lucky." But I am sure that she wasn't saying "I am only going to have sex with him if he takes me out for a nice dinner." Those were two separate events.
does it really matter what she thought? Do actors in porn films think they are getting paid to have sex? Not likely, they probably think they are getting paid to act.
