9/9/9

9% Corp Tax
9% Income Tax
9% Federal Sales Tax
It won't work. We talked about this already.

Wouldn't 10/10/10 be a helluva lot easier?

Eh....it may not but I like the idea of a federal consumption tax and would like to see the math of why it won’t work.

What problem does it solve?

People who work “under the table” and evade paying taxes would pay em. It taxes those who buy stuff fairly vs those who are more frugal. Drug dealer has to pay the same federal tax as an accountant when buying a TV for instance. Works with state tax why not a federal tax?

In turn you lower income tax to help the savers.

I have to imagine that the amount of "under the table" workers is relatively small. And that's a gigantic change to the tax code. Seems like a bad trade off.

Look at it this way, a single person with no kids making around $30k a year already pays around a 9% effective rate. And now you're going to add a 9% sales tax on top of that for everything they buy.

Not a great deal.

Only on new items. Making so little they likely pay zero taxes but say they make $60k. You can buy a used car or thrift shop clothes. But yes, anything new would be pricier and you would have to adjust. The rich will pay more because they frankly buy more expensive stuff from cars, jewelry, clothes, etc.

The likely outcome of that tax plan is that federal the tax burden of the upper income households goes down and the tax burden for lower income households goes up.

That's not a good deal. And it doesn't solve any real problems.

How so?
11/15/2018 5:24 PM
You mean how does it shift the burden?

Think about it this way, if it doesn't shift the burden and everyone pays exactly the same amount as they already pay, what's the point?

Any found revenue from under-the-table earners is likely offset by people buying things off-book to avoid sales taxes.

If I buy a car for 20k I pay $1.8k. If I buy a car for $100k I pay $9k. Big delta. Rich will pay more IMO. People buy stuff under the table now anyway but the rich don’t have to and to them $9k is nothing. Idk it makes sense to me.

Like I said before, this doesn’t solve any problems. Make a list of the biggest problems in the tax code and “people working under the table” isn’t going to be on it.

Why are you trying to talk sensibly with a person who obviously has no sense? He "knows" his way is the "right" way on everything and if you don't agree you are an idiot.
I do admittedly struggle with why someone who is supposedly so anti-big Government wouldn't want to get rid of the IRS and all it's loopholes though.

Sales tax on what?? Food?? A Haircut??? A massage?? A Blow...... oh wait..........
Go back and read it all bob; the "usage" tax would only be on "unnecessary" things. Determining what is deemed "necessary" would be the big challenge. I think you'd have a tough time getting that "Blow....." item exempted. As an aside, legalizing and legislating prostitution would be a HUGE tax influx. There would be sales (and/or usage) tax, yearly licensing fees, mandated periodic health checks, etc.
11/16/2018 9:33 AM
Everything you currently pay state tax for you'd pay a 9% federal tax.
