Maybe taking advantage of modern tech? We have walls at the busiest border crossings. Guess where the vast majority of smuggling (people and drugs) occurs? At the walled ports of entry.

If further securing the border is a priority (not sure it should be), then there are much more efficient and effective ways of doing it than building a 30 foot high wall in the middle of the mountains or desert where literally no smugglers are trying to cross.

Integrated fixed tower systems are low cost. Upgrading old low resulution cameras, buying tethered aerostats and dismounted radars would all cost significantly less than the wall and do a better job enhancing border security.

It would be less than $1b for the towers etc.

Even if you added $100m a year in new agent salaries, you still have 200 years of runway before you hit the $20+ billion needed for the wall.

Unfortunately I think this is true for a very large subset of Americans.

A wall is physically IMPOSSIBLE (long-term) in the desert southwest. It won't last, it won't be effective, and most importantly we'll spend millions of dollars trying to defend a dumb wall in the middle of nowhere while all the illegals sneak in via some 21st century technology.......... you know like wheels, or flight......... don't you dumb right-wingers know about these new technologies??

A wall will only stop animals and drainages........... but neither for all that long......... though that WILL be too long for a few species!
