Moy, I would LOVE to have a DISCUSSION about the WALL with you. No racism or PC talk. Just two open-minded individuals using logic and numbers to make educated arguments.
But you will probably decline and/or stop in the middle of said discussion because doing things like this is where Trumpism falls apart.
Start with why is there a fence around the White House, and why did Obama make it higher?
There is a fence around the white house for security reasons. You don't want random people walking onto the white house. Obama made it higher because of security. If you want to draw a comparison to the border wall, it would be a bad one. Go ahead, try.
How is it a bad one? Fences are put in place to prevent things from getting in, security.... Higher fences with anti climbing tops are meant to keep people from getting over the fence. They put a fence around the White House to do just that. Why won't it work on the border?
1. You can fly over a wall
2. A fence around the white house is much smaller than a wall on a border, and thus costs less and has more security
3. You can boat around a wall
4. You can get drugs over a wall
5. You can climb a wall securely because there is less security.
Do you think Israel uses just a fence to guard it's borders? Or that the white house doesn't have armed secret service agents to compliment the fence... As well as ground to sure missiles on the roof?
The white house fence is again, much smaller. The Israel fence is also smaller and still doesn't even work.
Fences do work or there wouldn't be a $25 billion fencing industry.
For national security a fence is only part of the plan. Let's not assume it's the only barrier to entry, just like it's not for the White House.
Right, fences work great on yards and such. As I have pointed out numerous times, there is a fundamental difference between fences on yards and fences on a border.
Right, that's my point. You can fly or boat over and around a wall. If you want to improve national security, there are better, cheaper, and more efficient ways of doing so.
Both boating and flying are far more costly and dangerous than driving or walking across the border. That reason alone will reduce illegal border crossings and drug trafficking. With a fence you can reallocate resources / manpower to patrol the shores and skies. A fence is a really cheap way to secure a border.... Relatively speaking the cost of ONE aircraft carrier would be enough money to build the entire southern border wall.... Or one month of funding the Iraq way would also be enough to build the entire wall.... Or 1 year of Medicare fraud savings could build the wall 5 times over.
You... do realize that we already have a fence on the border, right? Also flying over the border is way less expensive and less dangerous. You can get a VISA, cross the border, and just stay. 50-75% of illegals come in that way. It would just be higher with a bigger wall. And a border gets more expensive when you account for constant repair and maintenance. If you agree to cut the military budget in half to fund the wall, I would be all for that.
Lol... Cut the defense budget by $500 billion to build a $12 billion wall? That's a ridiculous argument only a child would make! "Well fine, I'll do what you want but first you have to give me something absolutely ridiculous!"
Build an 18'-30' fence/wall, drastically increase Visa overstay penalties, implement biometric tracking for Visa entrants, make it much harder to get visas, implement e-verify for employers, drastically increase penalties for businesses that hire illegals, upgrade technologies at the border, airports, and ports.
Wow.... I bet tang had no clue that both border crossings and Visa overstays could be addressed at the SAME TIME!!! No clue.
And for the record... About 50% of illegals are Visa overstays (600,000) whereas it's estimated that at least 550,000 illegals safely make it across the southern border without apprehension. Another 550,000 are apprehended.
I suppose it's much cheaper to pay for 4000 national guard reserves to assist at the southern border... And I'm sure they don't mind being away from their families. Or... Maybe build a wall so we don't need them there.
