I already know the answer because, unlike some of us, I actually was a journalist.

For a start, less speculative articles. Do a better job of making it clear that a certain piece is an opinion peace. If you don't know the full story, admit it. If you make a mistake, clarify. Trust that the people will buy into reporting not filled with hyperbole.

People don't trust mainstream media. Without trust the media can't be improved. Trust isn't built over night. Maybe start by reporting more actual fact, less speculation, and not picking sides and/or narratives.

Ultimately I think the mainstream media is already dead. It's being replaced by social media and bloggers.

The problem is that both sides interpret 'fact' differently. Newt Gingrich cares more about what the people supposedly think over what the actual fact is.

Two media outlets that I trust are FiveThirtyEight and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. Are they biased? I think so. Do they report facts? Absolutely.

AND unless and until we do....the fourth estate is prostrate before the people who rule and allow it.

Don't be naive. It's not interpretation, it's intentional. Both sides select the facts that support their narrative, and omit facts that don't. Then they report their biased narrative as fact, which it is not.

Because he was the first example that popped into my mind. And yes, I am biased. Everyone is.

FiveThirtyEight can be speculative when they do reporting, I look to them for analysis and polling. They do a good job.

EVERYONE HAS BIAS. Some on 538 lean left, some lean right. That doesn't mean that they don't report facts.
