Yeah, character definitely matters at that position more than any other.

I don't see that at all. First, people do grow up. Doing dumb **** in your early 20s is pretty standard. Second, he was a walk-on. He wanted to be the OK QB. Dude will put in the work. Finally, his dumbassery is on the field. Where young men tend to get excited. Manziel was always screwing up off the field.

You have to be able to control your emotions as a NFL QB. It seems for the most part that you either have that ability or you don't. I'm not convinced he has that ability. I love his competitiveness, but.

I could post some gifs of Brady, Rivers, Manning, Rothlisberger, etc, etc, NOT controlling their emotions and ask "Are these guys any good?" but that seems pointless. You've seen them. You know they can get fired up. I'll agree Mayfield might need to learn to be emotional in a better way but some pretty good QB are emotional.

Mayfield feels like a bust to me. Immature and hot headed. He's a slightly better throwing Manziel.
Slightly?! Have you checked Mayfield's completion % the last two seasons?

As far as his emotions, I think he's one of those guys who actually plays better when his opponent p*sses him off.

He plays in the Nobody Plays D XII.

Ever hear of TCU?
Mayfield had pretty nice numbers in both games against them, and the highly-acclaimed Ohio State D this year, as well as against Auburn last Bowl season.

Maybe he'll get to play Georgia or somebody like that in the near future.

It should be interesting against UGA. It's such an unknown. Defenses are overall pretty bad in the Big 12. OSU supposedly has a strong D, but you know how I feel about Big 10 athletes. UGA's defense has looked like the real deal all season except for 1 game. This game gives Moranis strong potential for an "I told you so" if Georgia lays an egg.

I think OU will beat GA, but it should be a close good game. I really believe Clemson is by far the best team in the country this year though, and do expect them to beat Bama by double digits. I would have expected the same result if OSU was in the game against Clemson as well. Now maybe Clemson isn't as good as I think or Bama is better than I think, so who knows. That is why the games matter, and why I wish the SEC would challenge themselves in the non-con, especially given they only play 8 conference games.

Saban is on record as saying he wished P5 has to schedule P5 in non-cons. I'm just not sure we'd know any more about Bama if they had played Syracuse, Nebraska and Baylor(in addition to FSU). Because you know that's what would happen. Tops would play bottoms. Bama is not going to schedule Stanford, PSU, Clemson and Oklahoma in non-cons. And it would be stupid to do so.

Mayfield will be a star QB if he goes to the Giants. He will be Browning Nagle if to the Jets

They need to separate DI into 3 classes. It irritates me that the mid-majors are essentially playing for nothing.

I was watching something, I think the playoff announcements, and one of the talking heads floated the idea of a non-P5 playoff. I don't know if the money would work, would people watch Boise St/UCF like they will Bama/Clemson?, but it would be fun.

That said, I don't think the mid-majors are playing for nothing. Same show had Herbstreit complaining that some bowls that were big deals aren't any more. If I'm a non-NFL prospect, my last game would be a big deal to me whether or not I'm in a playoff. And, if I went to UCF, I'd know I'm not going to the playoff.

See, that's the thing. Every true competitors ultimate goal is a national title. Right now, the non-P5's have zero chance.

At the last school that I coached at, my guys got sick of hearing me talk about winning championships because I did it so much. It was highly unlikely as our schedule was made up of the Landers, USC-Aikens, and N. Georgia's of the world, but if we won our games we had a chance.

In DI football, even if you go undefeated you still don't have a chance.
