As far as the accusations towards the candidates from both sides, so many women lie or over exaggerate about sexual abuse that it is hard to take any claim serious. It is quite a tragedy for the women who are actually raped or abused.

So while they do happen, and they are very problematic when they do, people claim that allegations are false far more frequently than they are and far more frequently than for other crimes. Put another way, we are much more likely to disbelieve a woman if she says she was raped than if she says she was robbed, but for no good reason.

I don't often agree with BL but he's right. Women typically will keep it a secret rather than admit it happened, but when they do bring it out in the open the great majority of those accusations are true. There's several extensive studies that speak to that.

Hmmm... I'll have to look into this a little more. My comment was based on perception, not fact. I hope this study is correct. Might reaffirm my faith in the women making the claims.

I've already answered this. On a side note, whether you believe the other issues are intertwined with slavery or not is irrelevant in my opinion. The north won. The south lost. The winners got to determine how things were going to be run. We are all much better off. The south' motivations for fighting became irrelevant when they lost.
