For those who aren't just going for the wins record, is it possible to put together a winning offense to go with a Silver King-led staff, with no AAA?

I once won a WS in an OL with Silver and 1917 Ed Cicotte, but that was before all of the 'dynamic' pricing updates. If you ask me, i don't see anything so 'dynamic' about it except that it favors the drafting of second tier starting pitchers.

The league I set up plays at $90M. Not a ton of money, but unless someone goes way overboard in building the rest of their pitching staff, you can spend $40M plus on offense. And there is no DH to spend on another bat.

I am curious to see the average staff IP/162 numbers, and the parks chosen.

Could you use Silver in a higher capacity league with success ? $180 - $200 mill. Two starters, good bullpen, good offense. Of course your competetion would be strong. Big ballpark. Give me some input.

You can do this, but you're just wasting IP if your plan is straight up "81 starts/2 man rotation". There are probably better buys out there even at 200mil.

I just got three straight starts out of King at 100% early in the season. He should be 5-0, but is instead 3-2...both 2-1 losses in which he gave up 0 earned runs.

Congrats to brianjw who had not only the best King (Long A strategy!) but finished first in regular season wins with 115.

My King had the 2nd most wins, but did manage to lead all the Kings in nearly every hitting category, including HRs (9; 2nd most had 4), RBI (71; 2nd had 42), Runs (68; 2nd had 42) and Runs Created (51; 2nd had 35).

Ticket sent to admin for JW to receive my $12.95 founder credit for those 80 wins...well done.

Once my schedule allows I will run a Clarkson or Ed Morris spinoff...

I took another stab at the Open League wins record, this time with Ed Seward in Silver King's usual role. Ed got off to a great start, 33-5 after 65 games (on pace for 82+ wins -- the record is still 77). He couldn't keep it up, however, and finished 66-17.

On the plus side, we clinched the wild card with 90 wins. I've run a lot of these Silver King-type teams and I think this is the first time I made the playoffs with one.

Seward is more optimal from a price per inning he'll actually pitch for you perspective

I started another version, use any 500IP/162.....I am once again donating my $12.95 to whoever gets the most wins by their Superman. ..

EDIT: home Safeco, league MLB96069
It's been over seven years since robertoloco posted the above. His Silver King's 77 wins shattered the previous Open League single-season record of 73 -- held by my Silver King. I've attempted many times to reclaim the record, and this evening finally did. With Ed Seward.

I used Seward almost exclusively in relief. He started two games all season: the first and last. He had 77 wins heading into game 162, and in that start went the distance in a 6-1 victory for record-breaking #78.

Credit to our trio of lefty openers, each of them with 125-149 real life innings. They had a 40 pitch max in their starts, and more often than not handed the ball over to Seward with a lead. Their ERA (and innings) totals:

2016 Clayton Kershaw 1.73 (167)
2008 CC Sabathia 2.28 (138)
1943 Howie Pollett 1.76 (133)

The non-Seward pitchers went 17-55, which was surprisingly good considering it was mostly AAA/200K scrubs playing behind them. The team took the division with 95 wins. Anything they do in the post-season will be gravy, of course.

P.S. Seward's one save was the result of spoil sport Sabathia stretching his pitch count to 5 perfect innings. Seward essentially mopped up for the 4-inning save.

Well done, Sir...

I'm kicking around a few ideas for an upcoming theme.

The OL shutouts record is 22. Perhaps a Shutouts league, or an ERA league, top 8 ERA teams above .500 advance to the postseason. Both would have Safeco or Petco teams a plenty, but it might fly...
