i dont really follow mlb anymore and i dont really understand why...i enjoy sim more......i think part of it is that i have never recovered from the steroids era.....when i found out it was like professional wrestlers i stopped following baseball......i came back for the phillies run....but even then i was not a full fledged fan anymore........part of it is too many teams......also.i dont like there being a coors field.........players constantly move....because of money good players are staying in the minors..........there are way too many players.....same for all sports............at least in basketball there are still less then 400 players...there are almost 1000 players in baseball........
Sorry, but as a life long Cub fan it has taken much to long for me to enjoy this. BASEBALL IS THE GREATEST GAME GOD EVER GAVE US! Thank you for allowing me the space to be an idiot today

I hadn't followed MLB closely for many years for basically the same reasons dino mentioned (just felt soulless, sterile and corporate to me), but I came back to it in 2015-16 as the Blue Jays made playoff runs and my two sons really started loving the game. My wife and I had gone without cable TV for 10 years; just as the 2016 season was wrapping up we got an offer from our Internet/phone provider to add cable in a package that would cost a few bucks less than just the Internet/phone. The funny thing is I actually had to argue my wife into it (she really hates TV a lot), but we signed on and started watching games on TV in the fall of 2016. We kept watching the playoffs even after the Jays got knocked out by Cleveland, including every game of the World Series, which as RCBracco's post suggests was pretty damn good. First World Series my sons and I watched together, and I couldn't have asked for a better one. (P.S. We were cheering for Cleveland because we're loyal American Leaguers; no offense to Cub fans -- if an NL team had to win we were glad it was them.)

im not at all saying that baseball isnt great it has always been great..still is...i just dont enjoy any of the sports as much anymore except basketball and for me it seems to come down to more constancy with core players and fewer players even with 30 teams. .......i personally felt ripped off by the way major league baseball handled the steroid era......i no longer look at baseball as an honest institution.

Oh, I don't look at any of the top professional sports leagues as honest institutions. I stand by my adjectives of soulless and corporate. I didn't even mention extortion! Billionaire sports owners threatening to move their teams if the local government doesn't pony up taxpayer dough for new stadiums and other stuff the owners can easily afford to pay for -- it's vile.

that is very vile......the ownerships and leagues are souless and corporate esp football........the current and last nba commish have tried to be a people's commish.....i dont know hockey well enough to speak to it.

Let me insert a quick SIM post here so we can live up to the title of this thread, and also pay the rent for this lovely forum we're calling home:

I was just researching players for my next Random Captain season and came across 1989 Howard Johnson, whose salary is now a whopping $8,521,993. It was $5.39M when dynamic pricing began. From his salary history I see that over five updates he's gone up by the maximum 10% four times (including the most recent time). Who the heck is still drafting him at that price? That's nuts. Hilarious, but nuts. How high is HoJo's price tag going to get before owners stop drafting him? $12M? $15M? $20M?
to answer your question directly (and with tongue firmly in cheek), his price tag went high enough for me to ignore him about 2 price updates ago.

i can see it coming out a week from now but not the minute he donates it...it makes it look like it isnt done for the right reason even if it is......if it wasnt announced and then the gadflies complained he could then really shut them up and look good when he did it.
That sounds WAY too much like politics, versus a gift from the heart. I'm not saying politics weren't introduced into the gifting process, but what the hell, it was a $1,000,000

you are right.

Sorry to harp on this, because $1M is definitely a nice gesture, even from a guy who says he's worth $8B (and let's put it in terms most of us can better understand: percentage wise it works out to a guy worth $50K giving $6.25, which, again, still a nice gesture).

But look at the WaPo article I quoted from. Just because Trump says he's pledging $1M of his own money is no reason to believe he'll be parting with $1M of his own money. Maybe he will, maybe he won't. It's strange how he's always so forthcoming about the pledging part, but secretive about the actual giving part.
