What if I did say "All cities need prayers". What am I dismissing?
4/21/2017 7:46 PM
If I said white lives matter and you said all lives matter, would you be making a dismissive remark?

What is a specific problem applied to one group? You are speaking racially.

People without legs or arms or people who are blind or deaf face a specific problem. Some are black. All matter.

It would be nice if we could take race out of the discussion.

Remember when we could edit quotes? What a horrible time that was. I'm sure glad WIS fixed THAT problem. I like boners. Big fat boners.

For sure.
Well if you know how to do it, then stop quoting page-long posts

"When your mother/wife/sister/whatever is gang-raped, I want you to come back and tell us that it was really her fault for wearing a short skirt or for staying out late or for having a couple drinks at the bar that night."

This might be the stupidest thing in this thread. How is this even close to an appropriate response to saying violent rapists should be punished, regardless of their personal circumstances?

Liberals are far too concerned with the rights of criminals. Once you commit a violent crime, you SHOULD lose a few rights. There are some prisoners who live better and get access to more perks than free, honest, innocent people.
The argument, at least from me, isn't that criminals shouldn't be punished. It's that people accused of a crime have a right to due process.

Some people killed by police are not criminals but victims. Yet mike loves to come up with every excuse as to why it's the victims fault they were killed.
As usual, you're missing the point. You assume everyone killed by a cop is a victim. If that person dies as a result of committing a crime, or threatening the life or well-being of someone else (including the cop), then they're not victims. Cops are not trained to assume everyone waving a gun around is peaceful and innocent - if you take that approach, it usually ends up with other people dead.

That's not to say there are no dick cops and no legit homicides committed by cops - sadly, there are. But people can minimize their chances of being killed by not putting police in a position where they have to guess their intentions in a potentially dangerous situation.

I said some. Not everyone. Not most. Some.
**** happens. arguing outliers is a fool's game...... this one time, someone won the lottery and got rich, therefore all people should play the lottery to get rich.

I have no idea. Unlike you, I can not read minds. I'd guess some people mean "blacks are not treated equally in society, and that should be addressed." I'd also guess some people mean "**** white people. blacks lives matter more."
Look, I understand. When most people say "black lives matter" they don't mean other lives don't matter. Also, when most people say "all lives matter" they are not saying there are no racial problems in this country. I can only speak for myself, but if I were to say "all lives mater" that is exactly what I mean. No life should be worth any more or less. Everyone, regardless of race, religion, sexual preference or any other category, should be treated equally. You explain to me how that makes me a racist.
I don't think it makes you racist. I don't think it's necessarily racist to say ALM. I think it's dismissive, though.

what exactly am I dismissing?
When someone says "black lives matter," do you respond with "all lives matter?"

If the answer to that question is no, then you aren't being dismissive and my comment doesn't apply to you.
so, if by chance I do respond that way, what exactly am I dismissing?
Saying black lives matter is expressing concern for a specific problem faced by a specific group. Saying all lives matter in response reframes the discussion and removes focus from the specific grievance of blacks.

It would be like if you said "pray for NY" after 9/11 and I responded with, "all cities need prayers."
Once again, you seem to think you can decide what other people mean by what they say. You can't. I'm sure some people say "all lives matter" and they mean to dismiss black concerns about racism. I'm also sure some people say that and don't mean to dismiss rblack concerns abot racism.

blm is a joke until there agenda includes all black Lives they will remain a racist money grabbing organization who are only concerned with how can they get paid for their misbehavior. yes we all agree some cop minority interactions have racist undertones the percentage is so small in relation to the total interactions it is laughable to put it in front of the carnage happening nightly in the black neighborhood's of america. once blm acknowledges this much bigger problem to their community I will take them serious

I'm not telling you what you mean, I'm telling you what other people hear when you say all lives matter.

Refer to the city analogy. If, after 9/11, you said, "pray for New York," it would be ****** and dismissive to respond with "all cities need prayers."

Maybe that's because people sometimes only hear what they want to hear, and not what's actually being said or meant.

That's what you do ALL THE TIME in these forums.

Maybe the problem is on the part of the listener for making assumptions on what's being said that aren't necessarily correct.
