Fair enough. But the methods aren't objective, therefore, it isn't journalism.

His methods are objective. From the very next paragraph on the American Press Institute website:

Seeking out multiple witnesses, disclosing as much as possible about sources, or asking various sides for comment, all signal such standards.

I'm not disputing the definition. I'm disputing whether TV talking heads qualify as "journalism".

And the answer is some do, some don't. Oliver does.

Does he? If one decides which way to take a story prior to researching a story, is he a journalist?

Unless, of course, you're going to point me to some of his work with a conservative lean.

If I talk to 100 people, but I know all of them are for the death penalty, am I researching public reaction to the death penalty?

HA! I WAS RIGHT! THIS GUY IS A DORK!

I'll listen to a stupid clip just to see how dorky he really is.

His story on publicly funded stadiums leaned conservative. His story on government surveillance also leaned conservative.

If he thinks multi-level marketing companies are a scam, researches multi-level marketing companies and how they work, interviews people with direct knowledge of multi-level marketing companies, invites the MLM's to comment, and then presents his findings, that's journalism. Even if he started with an opinion on MLM's.

Just because a comedian makes a joke about Democrats in between fourteen jokes about Republicans, doesn't make him a journalist....

You're right. The work he does makes him a journalist, regardless of the jokes he makes.

I tend to ignore comments from comedians with crappy late night shows.

What's Jimmy Fallon's viewpoint on healthcare?

How about touching base with Paris Hilton or Kimmy K? Don't want to leave that subset out.
Liberals love getting their news from comedians!!!! So true!!

The China/human rights story had no slant but his interview with the Dalai Lama was just nonsense.

From that bastion of FACTS (Wikipedia) : John William Oliver (born 23 April 1977)[2] is an English comedian, writer, actor, and television personality known as the star of HBO's satirical newscast, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. He is the recipient of five Primetime Emmy Awards and two Writers Guild Awards.

IOW, he's not a ******* journalist

I'm laughing.... Cause this is so true it's funny... But not nearly as funny as the FACT that BL thinks Oliver is actually legit journalism.
