In 1948 Stan Musial missed the Triple Crown by virtue of a rained-out home run.

He would have been the only player ever to lead a league in average, runs, hits, doubles, triples, homers and RBIs.

Believe it or don't. ..

Wow, never knew this. What a season.

Heading into the 100th game of the 1902 Historical Replay League (16 real life 1902 teams, no twisting) we had two undefeated pitchers: Cleveland's Addie Joss at 26-0 (ERA 1.66) and Pittsburgh's Sam Leever at 17-0 (ERA 2.78).

Leever pitched well, giving up 2 earned runs in 8 innings, but the defense let him down with 4 errors and the offense didn't do much as he lost his first game, 4-1.

Joss fared even worse, giving up 6 runs in 6 innings (3 earned) on his way to his first loss, 8-0.

Two pitchers with a combined 43-0 record go 0-2 in the same cycle of games!

Game 7 in the LCS of the Take Two theme (90M cap, draft your team from any two post-1919 real life teams, no twisting).

1965 Koufax starting for us, so I felt pretty good. He didn't pitch very well, though, giving up 5 runs in 6 innings, and then the relievers got smacked around a bit and gave up 3 more for a total of 8. Still, we managed to win -- by 36 runs! Final score was 44-8. I'm pretty sure I've never been involved in a blowout that big in a Game 7 before.

Ben Petrick was the Player of the Game, going 8/9 with 2 doubles and 2 HR and knocking in 10 runs. In real life, Petrick had 12 RBI for the entire season!

Two quick entries from an Open League I'm in:

1889 Billy Hamilton goes 0-3 with 2 walks in a game, yet somehow manages 6 stolen bases.

One team was swept in a 3-game series, and in fact didn't score a run in the entire series, despite out-hitting the opposing team 12-10 overall. One game they lost 2-0 while pitching a one-hitter, and another 2-0 while pitching a 2-hitter.

With most of my teams I make an extra effort against division rivals, and will hold back my best SPs and any good low PA hitters for those games. At the moment I have a trio of teams where the results have been rather extreme (record vs. division rivals posted first, then record vs. rest of league):

Colorado Bumpus Hounds -- 11-1, 25-18
1929 St. Louis Cardinals -- 20-1, 20-22
Cuellar & Friends --19-2, 30-28

Total vs. division rivals: 50-4, .926
Total vs. rest of league: 75-68, .525

A difference of .401!

Believe It or Don't!
None of the above teams won, or even got as far as, the World Series. Confound it!

I'll jinx myself further by bragging about the division records of some of my current teams (record vs. division rivals posted first, then record vs. rest of league):

ODD DUCKS -- 28-3, 62-58
2009 LA Dodgers -- 16-5, 40-39
Toronto Creepers -- 14-7, 29-35
Colorado Bumpus Hounds -- 14-7, 26-38
ODDER DUCKS -- 16-2, 27-16

Total vs. division rivals: 88-24, .786
Total vs. rest of league: 184-186, .497

A difference of .289!

Six teams active at the present time. A few rounds ago, I went 6-0. The next round I went 5-1. The next round I went 4-2. The next round I went 3-3. The next round I went 2-4. I just checked for this round expecting a 1-5. Oh no, just to throw me off - it's an 0-6. They're just trying to keep me on my toes...

From Season 31 of Random Captain, a 90M theme league: 1967 Cisco Carlos appears in 46 games, goes 46/46 converting saves with an ERA of 0.79 in 45.1 IP. I've searched through past seasons of all my progs and multi-seasons themes (probably 150+ seasons total), and haven't found a single pitcher with as many saves opps without a blown save.

Believe It or Don't!
Have one for you from season 15 of the Separate Theme League. I had 1955 Ellis Kinder go 49/49 in 43.3 innings over 51 appearances with a 1.45 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, and .190 OAV. To top this off he went 4/4 in the playoffs!

Great forum by the way. Just came across it and will post my BIODs in the future.
