righto then
me and you are brothers
the way to get to three meaningful parties or more is to outlaw anything more than 50%+1
but no
we got this thing where you win my state you get all my votes
we got this thing where it takes 60 to decide
what a crock
Crock is crook minus an o.
Teddy Roosevelt tried it and it did not stick.
Americans and most people have a natural inclination to choose between A and B.
Anything more is way too complicated.
We also evolved a system to coalesce competing ideology mainly economics into a binary choice. Along the way one of the parties found a way to convince voters into joining the party serving their employer in opposition to them but I digress.
Our politics is 2 polar opposite parties.
If it was possible for Zeus and Hera to birth a brand new fully actualized party to join the other 2 and that party be unique and competitive but not derivative I think that would be fantastic.
It would completely change the way business is done in Congress and lead to greater consensus building.
The problem is that the fake third party candidates like communist Jill Stein and spoiler in chief Rolf Nader strike fear as they should into a party running a winning race only to be upended in the electoral college by a drop out.
That is a bad outcome.
I don’t want third parties unless we get rid of the electoral college.
Today a great third party could be formed by the former republicans who are sane and decent people including the Lincoln Project and people like Michael Steele and David Jolly and Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger.
They are so pro democracy that for now they will only support the democrats so long as the republicans remain really and truly a party of autocrats and cowards and let’s face it - scum.
So I see a possible third party of substance and heft in maybe 20 years.
