Bring on the Bullet Birds!!!
Bring on the Bullet Birds indeed!

#3 FC Cackalacky advances to the first-ever Bums Bracket Finals after their 5-2 road win over #7 Not Very United, taking the semis by an aggregate of 8-5. The opening leg of the series ended up a 3-3 tie, so this morning's game had everything on the line. United took a 4-3 advantage when Tila Quirola hit a glancing header in the 12th minute, sending the home crowd to the concessions to buy another round of Molson. But the guys from Carolina know a thing or two about drinking beer themselves and went on a 5-1 scoring tear to finish the series off. Five different Cackalacky players scored between the 26th and 79th minutes, highlighted by Zachely Gutglik's effort that pinballed off the post. United's only other score was a shot from Ilona Császár, which temporarily tied the aggregate at 5-5 before things really got out of hand.

Just like in the Cup Finals, there is no seeding and no time frame. Cackalacky and FC Edinburgh Bullet Birds can schedule at their leisure and, if we have an aggregate tie, I'll do a coin flip to see which team hosts the first sudden death game.

There are a couple of days before the Cup Semis get going so enjoy your weekend.

Weyland Watkins (with his 9 this cup so far) needs 2 to tie and 3 for sole possession of the all time FC Dynasty Cup scoring record. I’m not currently planning on resigning him, at 35 and making 1.8m it’s tough to fit that contract in every year, so he needs to go big in the semi’s cause this is likely his last hurrah.
Nope. Watkins will need to be content to finish his career as solo 2nd. Arley Movsisyan has scored another 8 goals this tournament and now sits at 68 for his career. I don't think he'll ever be caught.
Oh damn I didn’t even think anyone else that high up the list was still playing.

Time to resign Watkins lol, how old is Movsisyan

The Cup Semifinals got underway this morning with both halves of the bracket playing their opener. #9 Merchiston FC and #13 Swamp City Dragons played in front of 38,000+ screaming Scottish fans and everybody got their money's worth. Math Boyes got the home team on the board in the 18th minute when he decided to take things into his own hands and create an opportunity all by himself. Dragons goalie Huenu Palomino tried to make the save but the shot was placed just outside of his reach...and being 6' 4'' tall, he has a lot of reach. That 1-0 advantage held all the way through the midpoint of the 2nd half until a series of three corner kicks in a row finally netted the equalizer. Jean-Martin Swerts made a couple of athletic saves but the 2nd one remained in play and Tre Ackworth cleaned up the loose change in front of the goal to tie the game at 1-1, which is how the contest ended. Tonight's return match in Canada begins the way this morning did, will both teams dead even.

The Champs took a step closer to making their third Championship appearance out of the last four tournaments with a very hard-fought 4-3 win over #6 VB Hibernian at Hibs home pitch in the British Isles. The Cabbage played about as well as they could against #2 Club de Fútbol Deportivo Cotopaxi answering back every time they went down a goal in the 1st half. Cotopaxi took the lead in the 9th by a rocket off the foot of José Valdés, Lucas Quezada answered right back several minutes later. Weyland Watkins gave the Champs a 2-1 lead off a header in the 33rd and Godfredo Pinola found the answer by clubbing in a ball a little before halftime. But Cotopaxi had too much firepower in the 2nd half and, after taking a 3-2 lead in the 54th, finally gave themselves breathing room by following up that score with another late by Zackary Cunningham, which proved to be the game winner. Hibs closed the game with Quezada's 2nd goal of the game to minimize the deficit to a single tally. That return game will be tomorrow in Ecuador, where 60,000 will almost certainly come out in support.

The next update will be after 7pm this evening.

After 7 weeks of game play, we have ourselves a Championship qualifier. #9 Merchiston FC has earned the right to go for the gold after their dramatic 1-0 road win over #13 Swamp City Dragons. The Dragons dominated the game, outshooting the Scottish side 16-5 and yielding only a single corner kick. Yet, Swamp City couldn't knock one past Jean-Martin Swerts. After a scoreless half, centenarian Arley Movsisyan had an opening as Swerts was beaten in the 63rd but the placement was an inch too close and the Merchiston goalie stopped the ball's forward progress, allowing a defender to clear it out of danger. Then, in one of Merchiston's few quality looks, Bartleah Clavell snapped off a quick shot that got past a diving Huenu Palomino and went into the upper corner via the underside of the crossbar. In the span of six minutes, an inch was enough to deny the Dragons a goal at one end and an inch was just enough to give Merchiston a goal...the series winning goal...at the other end. Swamp City ends a great playoff run and will have to settle for the 3rd Place game while Merchiston awaits their Championship opponent.

In the Bums Bracket Finals, FC Cackalacky held serve with their 2-1 home win against FC Edinburgh Bullet Birds. The game was an even affair with shots tied at 16 and shots on goal tied at 5. After both teams traded 1st half scores, Cackalacky got the winner from the head of a defender, as Akton Egholm pushed forward for a corner kick and sent a redirection past Edinburgh goalie Paulo Hudson in the 57th for the victory. The series will now move to the capital city of Scotland on the 26th for the ultimate consolation prize.

...and then there were two.

We have arrived at the Championship Round after this morning's result. #2 Club de Fútbol Deportivo Cotopaxi has one team in its way to becoming the first back-to-back champion in FC Dynasty Cup history after their gritty 3-2 win this morning, giving them a 7-5 aggregate over #6 VB Hibernian. Maeyken Bastin scored twice, including the first goal of the game when he received a corner cross from José Valdés and drilled a header past a flat-footed Sonny Miki, who watched the ball sail past him in the 21st. Veteran defender Moss Clem picked a very good time to score his first goal of the tourney midway through the 2nd half to extend the lead to 2-0 and the aggregate to 6-3. Hibs did fight back after a substitution in the 61st to shake up the lineup, and it paid some dividends as Patten Griffin and Lichuen Carlos Alberto both scored goals to close the deficit to 6-5. Right after Cesaro Peña nearly tied the series in the 76th, forcing Cotopaxi goalie Rose Luyten to make a diving one-handed save, Bastin's 2nd goal in the 80th finally shut the door on the series. The nation of Ecuador will be having a good time tonight while England's dreams of gold will need to be adjusted to bronze.

Jerrad Forko from SwampDragons United is still clinging to the Golden Toe lead with 12 goals scored, two clear of the field. I will post the coin flips to determine which 3rd Place team will host the bronze medal match later today as well as the coin flip for the first sudden death game in the Championship round.

Best of luck. There is no time frame for games to be played for either the Championship or the 3rd Place game, so you may schedule whenever you like.

Thanks for nuttin', Hibernian! This whole parade began for Merchiston with a fluky tie and a nasty loss to Cotopaxi in group stage. The coin flip win is likely to be as good as it gets for the men in skirts. That is, unless we take gomiami's timeframe literally, and defer sending or accepting a match until 2027?

Congrats Bullet Birds on winning the 2nd Loser, 1st Tourney!
3/26/2025 2:10 PM
The inaugural Bums Bracket Finals concluded today when FC Cackalacky tried to hold their 2-1 lead from the opening game. FC Edinburgh Bullet Birds didn't want to gamble on a coin flip and sudden death and did their best to win outright...yet the series looked drawish all the way to the end. The Bullet Birds tied the aggregate in the 13th minute when Daylin Plunkett painted the corner, beating Cackalacky goalie Georges Müller to the spot. After falling behind 3-2, Evan Ashby drew Edinburgh level again a 3 apiece when his header got by a diving Müller and the series remained deadlocked to the final few minutes. The head referee, apparently not wanting to play an additional game, caused controversy when he showed Cackalacky defender Herschel Majerkewicz red instead of yellow in the 83rd for a reckless challenge and the Americans, still upset about the call, were out of position moments later for a crossing pass that found Walker Rowena open in the middle of the box to score the Bums Bracket winner.

Congrats to the Bullet Birds on winning the tourney within a tourney and thanks to everyone who entered a team into the lower bracket.

Which is probably why you’re going to win the rematches!

if you’re ready to start the championships I am. I have about 10 more games until season flip

I'm waiting for the Dragon's challenge for the 3rd place match
