Admittedly, 3 of the 4 errors were made by non gold glovers (Connolly and Wilson x 2)

Hard Luck Start Dept.

Another team in my Random Captain theme has started out the season 0-4. Not that rare, but the losses have been unusually rough.

Game 1: Blew a 2-1 lead, lost 3-2 on a 10th inning HR.
Game 2: Blew a 6-3 lead, lost 7-6 in the 10th.
Game 3: Blew a 2-1 lead in the 8th, lost 3-2.

The team changed opponents for Game 4, and you figure after three straight one-run losses (two in extras) it couldn't get any worse. Alas...

Bottom of the 9th, leading 5-3, they give up 2 runs.
Bottom of the 10th, leading 6-5, they give up 1 run.
Bottom of the 11th, leading 10-6, they give up 4 runs.
Bottom of the 12th, leading 13-10, they give up 3 runs.
Bottom of the 13th, score tied 13-13, they give up the winning run.



Oh, and the five different relievers who coughed up those leads? Every one of them at 100%!

2019 progressive, game 6 of the World Series, my team down 3 games to 2, but enters the bottom of the 9th with a 13-1 lead. RP Marcus Walden comes into the game with a runner on first, one out:



Gives up a HR to make it 13-3, then beans the next two batters! 5 earned runs given up, no outs recorded!

I give him hell after the game, tell him to check his ego, this is a team sport, etc.; to his credit, he seems contrite.

Game 7: Walden again gets the nod in the 9th, this time it's a 5-2 lead, and he nails down the save to close out the championship for us!

contrarian, it was indeed an NWP championship, and with this one I've finally passed you for most rings in this prog—but it took me 22 more seasons, so you're still the pound-for-pound champ!

There is no one more worthy of claiming that prize. Congrats!

Edit: For those unaware of the legend of ‘71 Ernie McAnally, he was mentioned in the very first post of this thread some 12 years ago…

Yeah, this prog's had a 59 season run (1961-2019) and Ernie McAnally still holds the single-season wins record with 33.

In real life in 1971 he went 11-12, and in fact won just 30 games in his entire career!
