Obama: Worst President Ever? Topic

I'm still alive.  I've made all my points.

Legally, there isn't a defense for a same sex marriage ban.  Especially when the couples had the right and then had it banned.  It's just a matter of time before same sex marriage is legal in all 50 states.

Yet it's being banned in states as I type this.   Weird ****, huh?

Yeah, but public opinion is essentially running in the other direction.  The rate of people favorable of same sex marriage went from an annual 1% increase to a 5% per year increase now.

Check out this Republican pollster memo:

I don't click links.   You might have some poo-pushing photo on there.

Nonetheless, as you've stated, we can't let public opinion make laws.   That's just wrong.

I thought we were done after jrd's homophobic and slanderous remarks.  No?

As you have pointed out over and over again, the laws are being passed in several states (and then challenged in court). As public opinion shifts, those laws will stop being passed.

I understand you not wanting to click that link, you seem like the kind of person that doesn't like to read things that don't confirm the beliefs you already have.

Here lies the paradox.

While polls are showing more poeple supporting gay marriage, when people are asked to actually cast a vote the people always go for traditional marriage.

I think it is based on 2 things...

1 The people who are for traditional marraige are older and more likely to actually vote.
2 The polls are sometimes a little broad in their questions, while an actual ballot measure is usually pretty clear.

Example...

Poll...Do you support marriage equality irregardless of sexual preference?

Ballot Measure...Amend the state Constitution to define marraige as between one man and one woman.

Uh, isn't it "public opinion"  that is actually passing these laws via referendums?

What makes you believe that public opinion is going to shift?

There's a difference between public opinion and poll results.

True. But public opinion is shifting. It's just a matter of time before same sex marriage is legal in all states, either by vote or by court order.
