Yes really great list.
I particularly commend Alphabetville. It was one of the very best albums of 2020.
X is one of my most favorite bands. They are a supercharged rock and roll band that often employs a demonic Chuck berry riff and has a guitarist named Billy Zoom who is one of the best since Johnny Thunders who was originally with The New York Dolls.
For context X is the favorite band of Ray Manzerick and X is the most popular band in California since the Doors.

And Taylor Swift is re - releasing her album Fearless. There was a big fight with the prior label involving publishing rights - I think that’s right
and she is re recording all of her albums on the other label with new mixes.
the new Fearless is one of the April releases.

the only artist I can think of that re recorded songs ( not whole albums) on different labels was Frank
Which was always cool as often the re- recordings were sufficiently different to be like brand new songs.
Ryan Adams covered the entire 1989 album from start to finish, and it's great!

Virgil Trucks one of the best pitchers of the 1950s was the uncle of Butch Trucks who was one of the founding members of The Allman Brothers Band.

Iris Dement, especially songs from "Infamous Angel" and the stuff she recorded with John Prine.

Beethoven's "Variations for Violin and Piano" which are Beethoven's "Basement Tapes" as I understand them (I am probably wrong but what the heck). Listening to them, you hear Beethoven just messing around in the studio so to speak (there was no studio, but you get what I mean), yet for almost anyone else not named Bach they would be the greatest thing they had done in their careers. It reminds me of Bill James' comment about how Yaz and Billy Williams compare, pretty close, two great players, but he mentions that their two best seasons, 1967 for Yastrzemski and 1970 for Williams are more or less what Henry Aaron did every year. That's the difference. Like listening to Dylan's "Jokerman", or "Just Like a Woman", or Cold Iron Bound", or "One Too Many Mornings" - for anyone else, a career song, for Bob, an afternoon.

Don't laugh, but I listened and watched on YouTube "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves". I have begun to think that Cher is the performer I have most underestimated over the years/decades. She is THE template for Madonna, Lady Gage and so many others. Except she probably had a better singing voice than any of them, and was also a better actress, and actually knew something about being transgressive in her life and life experiences (often not when she wanted those experiences), and had more talent. Yes, her super-hyped commercial stuff, especially at some point in the 1980s was a female version of what Vegas did to Elvis, but she survived that stuff and eventually moved on.

And a band that my daughter requires me to listen to, winners of Italy's national music competition (It is SuperBowl level in Italy), San Remo - the band is called Maneskin (it is a Danish name due to one of the members being of Danish origin and means "Moonlight". Here they are:

or here:

though I prefer another band, with more critical social commentary, called "Stato Sociale" - Italian for "Welfare State":

I was hoping to hear from you ItalyProf.
I don’t consider Gypsies Tramps and Thieves a guilty pleasure. Just a great song belted out by a very special vocalist and performer.
if you get a chance to listen to the Tony Bennett Lady Gaga duets you get a chance to hear the great versatility and elegance of the Gaga....and who can forget what she did with the national anthem at the Inaugeration.

Thank you ItalyProf.

She was great on the national anthem at the Inaugural, true, though the dress was another matter. Not denying that Lady Gaga has talent, though I am denying that Madonna has any except for self-marketing. Just saying that Cher was the original of that type. Still a guilty pleasure. But, could be worse, could be:

Now that would be beyond the pale.

Naw......... for me. Rachel Sweet. There you go.

Rachel Sweet once bought a former home of Madonna and sold it for almost 5 million in 2010.

the circle of life.

Speaking of American Idol, of the 94 auditions we were shown, I grabbed hold of 8 heading to Hollywood Week. After 2 more performances there, all 8 made it thru to the Final24. Course, some would argue that only makes me a good judge of no talent.

How do you think Joni Mitchell would have fared on American Idol?

The whole idea is sickening to me.

Of course, while we're doing all these liberal like self admissions, I'd have to cop to being a bit of a musical snob......but then, I did have the Tommy Roe 45 RPM single of "Dizzy" (back in the day when I was about 11)............ am I forgiven?
