I live in the Kansas City metro. I am completely against any protest against the U.S. flag or the National Anthem. I believe it is misplaced and offensive. At the same time, I adhere to the Constitution and believe that people should have the right to protest, verbally or in action, peaceably, as they see fit.

As Voltaire famously stated, I disapprove of what you say but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

Exactly. I personally don't have a strong opinion on the protest itself. but I do have a strong opinion that people should have the right to do it.

BTW, they weren't protesting the flag.

I know someone who immigrated to Canada about 25 years ago, and he said it was a big shock learning his children had to listen to the national anthem every single morning at school. He asked me to explain the thinking behind that, and I couldn't. Same for sporting events. Play the anthem for home openers and special occasions. Every game seems like overkill.

I'm also turned off by the military fetishism at sporting events, which I guess is an offshoot of the anthem stuff...

This should not be surprising at all. I grew up saying the Pledge of Allegiance every day at school and listening to the National Anthem every day at school. 25+ years ago, the generation that was in power was the generation that had fought in WWII. It is understandable that nationalism would be prevalent. Today, the generation in power has a different viewpoint.

The pendulum swings but it should never "shock" someone. It's historic and cyclical.

i listened to the you tube -bobby fuller 5....great and the go go girls is so much fun to watch.
not many people know that the bobby fuller group were remaining crickets....bobby fuller wrote the song..sings it like buddy holly....if buddy holly wasnt killed and the group stayed together it would have been sung by buddy holly.
