Trump lawyer 'paid by Ukraine' to arrange White House talks

Donald Trump's personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, received a secret payment of at least $400,000 (£300,000) to fix talks between the Ukrainian president and President Trump, according to sources in Kiev close to those involved.

The payment was arranged by intermediaries acting for Ukraine's leader, Petro Poroshenko, the sources said, though Mr Cohen was not registered as a representative of Ukraine as required by US law.

Mr Cohen denies the allegation.

The meeting at the White House was last June. Shortly after the Ukrainian president returned home, his country's anti-corruption agency stopped its investigation into Trump's former campaign manager, Paul Manafort.

A high-ranking Ukrainian intelligence officer in Mr Poroshenko's administration described what happened before the visit to the White House.

Mr Cohen was brought in, he said, because Ukraine's registered lobbyists and embassy in Washington DC could get Mr Poroshenko little more than a brief photo-op with Mr Trump. Mr Poroshenko needed something that could be portrayed as "talks".

This senior official's account is as follows - Mr Poroshenko decided to establish a back channel to Mr Trump. The task was given to a former aide, who asked a loyal Ukrainian MP for help.

He in turn used personal contacts in a Jewish charity in New York state, Chabad of Port Washington. This eventually led to Michael Cohen, the president's lawyer and trusted fixer. Mr Cohen was paid $400,000.

There is no suggestion that Mr Trump knew about the payment.

Well, I'm suggesting Trump knew about the payment. I'm even suggesting he got a cut! Or more accurately, he got the lion's share of it, and Cohen got the finder's fee or whatever you call the payment the shady fixer dude gets.

i agree...it is very suspicious that the ukraine govt stopped a probe into manafort unexpectedly right after the meeting with trump.
if it is true and i believe it that is mafia stuff.....the rigged system...fixing the system.

There was no chance Trump would turn off the greed spigot once he won the election. A person who wasn't avarice personified might have said to his fixer, "Okay, I'm rich, I'm the President of America, I'm set for life. Let's cool it with the lowlife crimes, Mike." But that's not who Trump is.

I still can't believe anyone ever looked at this cheap con man and thought, "He's going to make America great again."

yeah.....he is all about taking someone's lunch money...he is a bully who steals for the sport.
a president who settles trump university for 100 % of the tuition fees.....a shame the plaintiffs settled for only 100 %....25 million settlement.
can you imagine the punitive damages....probably 75 - 100 million.
how can people give him a pass on trump university......no charity was involved with him.....just stole from needy people and fought them to the end while hurling racist comments at the judge...

im so glad to see the many major lawsuits against alex jones...the monster.
even an fbi agent is involved......a few months ago he lost all custody of his kids and can only have supervised visits...the court agreed with the mother that he is maliciously imbalanced.....i hope everyone unanimously wants him to gets destroyed.

richard frum who is a leading republican hater of trump is the one who coined the phrase the axis of evil..he was a george bush speechwriter.

i was shocked and saddened about bruno.....the babe ruth /bill russell/ rocky of wrestling.
maybe the strongest man to ever wrestle...in 1958 before he became a wrestler and was still living in italy he set the then world record for power lifting...this was before steroids and supplements etc.
if he had not gone into wrestling he could have won the gold medal for italy in 1960 for weight lifting.
a very charming and charismatic man..i had the privilege of meeting him around 2010.

the noble peace prize is on hold......what a shocker.

how stupid can someone be to stick it to china right before a korean summit..
not to mention ignoring an american commitment with all the major allies and getting out of a 100% de nuke deal with North Korea's friend Iran.
