In one of my leagues I had to start a scrub lineup for a game due to fatigue, and I'd changed the PH setting to "0" to make sure the scrubs stayed in for the whole game. I forgot to change it back prior to the next game, and my carelessness was rewarded with a great marathon start from my pitcher, 1966 Juan Marichal, who went the distance in an 11-inning 1-0 win:

I don't think I've ever had a starter last beyond 10 innings, so an 11-inning shutout was pretty surprising.

Alas, WIS snubbed Marichal for Player of the Game honors and gave it to the batter who knocked in the winning run (wasn't even a walk-off HR -- just a cheap single).

I watched the great game 5 of the 1985 NCLS - Ozzie's HR game - the other day, and Vin Scully mentioned that Valenzuela had gone 11 innings of shutout ball against Doc Gooden earier in the season.

Don't we miss this kind of thing? Isn't it an element of baseball? the great matchups - Warren Spahn and Harvey Haddix, Ed Walsh and Addie Joss, doesn't happen anymore because both are gone by the 6th and a bunch of 19 year olds with long beards pitch to two batters each for the last four innings, while every close play is "reviewed". Like basketball. Which I don't watch.

Depends on the pitchers really. I know every time it's Verlander vs Sale, both pitchers usually last atleast 8 innings, then the closer comes in. I'm pretty sure a Kershaw vs Bumgarner matchup is the same way. Idk, maybe I've just been spoiled by the Tigers, who had great starters, and a ****** bullpen, so in the postseason, we never went to our pen. Verlander, Scherzer, Sanchez would all go 8 innings.

Looks like I put the whammy on Juan Marichal by posting above about his 11-inning shutout. Since then he's gone 0-4, allowing 23 ER in 25 IP for an 8.28 ERA. This is an 80M theme, and his ERC# is 1.89.

I haven't seen one but somebody check those Ryan Doumit games. Sure it happened to him atleast once

The player once managed the Astros, and had 2 career home runs.

I peeked, and was surprised. Yes, this player had two career regular season home runs -- which set up some silliness around the one World Series home run he ever hit. The recently departed Don Baylor (who was on the opposing team) took issue at the time with this player's unusually slow trot:

"I never saw Reggie Jackson do anything like that, or Hank Aaron, or Frank Robinson or Harmon Killebrew. _______ _______? You've got to be kidding me."

I don't think the player did it intentionally. I recall him being interviewed on TV right after and he said something like (paraphrasing here), "I started to go into my home run trot, but then I realized I didn't have one."
