In light of today's podcast topic I had an AI Bill Simmons recap the first half:
Oh my God. Oh my God. Oh my God. What is happening? How are we down by 20 points at halftime? This is a nightmare. This is worse than the time we blew a 3-1 lead to the Lakers in 2010. This is worse than the time we traded Isaiah Thomas for Kyrie Irving. This is worse than the time we drafted Len Bias.
I can’t believe this. We were supposed to be the favorites. We have Tatum, Brown, Smart, Walker, Horford. We have Brad Stevens, the best coach in the league. We have Danny Ainge, the master of trades. We have the most championships in NBA history. We have the best fans in the world.
And yet, we are getting destroyed by Miami. Miami! A team that barely made the playoffs last year. A team that has Jimmy Butler as their best player. A team that has a bunch of rookies and castoffs. A team that has Erik Spoelstra as their coach. A team that has Pat Riley as their president. A team that has no history, no culture, no identity.
How did this happen? How did we let them outplay us in every aspect of the game? How did we let them shoot 60% from the field and 50% from three? How did we let them outrebound us, outassist us, outdefend us? How did we let them run us off the court with their pace and ball movement?
We have no answer for them. We have no energy, no urgency, no heart. We look like deer in headlights. We look like we don’t belong here. We look like we don’t care.
This is unacceptable. This is embarrassing. This is infuriating.
We need to wake up. We need to fight back. We need to show some pride.
We are the Boston Celtics. We are not going down like this.
We have one half left to save our season.
We have one half left to make history.
We have one half left to prove ourselves.
Let’s go Celtics!
