I propose as an official policy of the Wooden DIII World of fake basketball that "poaching" be defined as follows: any effort to recruit a player under contemporaneous (this is key) consideration (whether conscious or unconscious) by any team in the North Atlantic Conference.

Those guys drink a hell of a lot - apparently - so the "unconscious" part is non-negotiable. Plus, let's face it, the NAC is without question the "Id" of our treasured corner of the fake universe of Hoops Dynasty.

Was hoping Superior would have snuck into the list...guess I need a few other NC appearances.
12/5/2009 12:08 PM
you need one more post-season appearance. to qualify you must have four appearances in the previous five seasons.

im still disapointed I never got mcmurry to the top. Would a team not on the list make the list with a championship?
12/5/2009 6:38 PM
nope. you could win three NT's in a row and not make the list. gotta have those four seasons to qualify.

neat

its my first year at n. park, I am going to try to make them go up the list, not down

welcome aboard matt. you picked a great world to grab a team. good luck in your quest to make the list. there's quite a competitive group of coaches here in DIII wooden

After taking so long to make it on all it took was one bad and one average season to knock me off for at least the next four seasons.

Great job as always wronoj.

Early reminder:

The NAC will most likely have 2 openings next year, if anyone wants to join a Gangbang Conference. We usually like to go outside HD and whatif to fill openings, but we'll extend the invitation to the rest of Wooden because one of the jobs is an outstanding opportunity... although, any job in the NAC is a great opportunity, given that we are the most fun conference in all of HD, and we have an inflated sense of moral superiority! These are the gigs:

Husson:
- #19 on the Dynasty List
- 6 straight NTs
- 9 consecutive postseason appearances
- perfectly balanced class distro (4-3-3-2)
- easy systems to run (motion/press)
- good prestige (currently A-, but that will likely dip into the B- range)
- plenty of talent returning, both bigs and guards
- a spot not only in the NAC, but in the NAC North, which has been one of the 2-3 most competitive divisions in all of HD for the last 10 seasons, with 4 teams on the dynasty list

Johnson St.:
- great class distro (2-3-4-3)
- 3 years of Johnsons already in place, which is better than having SIM AI recruits, and kinda funny
- the option to continue the tradition of recruiting only guys named Johnson, or turn the program into a contender in the great NAC North
- simple motion/zone system that is easy to recruit for

Husson is a great job, but as with recruiting, we don't want a poach coach (if you use the job as a stepping stone to a crappy D2 job, you will be made to feel an amount of guilt that would make a catholic blush). Johnson St. is more of a rebuild, but not a total excavation.

and so it begins again... anyone have bold predictions?

As crazy as this tourney has been in the past, I think this year is the most wide open I've ever seen it. Lots of really good teams at the top, but a couple lack top-tier passing, so they might struggle against a good press. No clue what's going to happen.

I'll look at it more and make a prediction later, but GL to all!

That's all the nudging I need.

Midwest:
Finlandia over Dallas
Probably the best team in the country, but not invincible. I actually really like vandydave's team, and would pick them in any other region, but goose deservingly has the #1 overall seed, facing a 303(?!?!?!?!?!?) RPI team in the 1st round.

East:
Calvin over "McMurry"
Toughest region in terms of depth by far. There are at least 9 teams with a realistic shot at the final 4.
Beloit is a 1-seed for a reason, with spd/ath and all the press/break trappings; Ohio Northern has matched up very well with athletic teams all year; Calvin and Hobart have the best combined rebounding of any 1st round matchup I've seen since the potential era began; Oberlin has underachieved in the tourney in recent years or else they'd be my upset special; Anderson-McMurry is going to be a bloodbath; never count out East Oregon; St. Lawrence is only the best team from the best conference.

South:
SUNY Maritime over Lasell
The polar opposite of the East, this is the softest region in the tourney. SUNYM looks to have the edge on everyone in the upper half, and the lower half of the draw is one of those things that makes me believe there is a God.

West:
Edgewood over Concordia, Austin
This is the upset region. Concordia picks off Amherst in round 2; Thomas takes down Mississippi; Lake Forest beats Misericordia; Eureka knocks out Moravian; SUNYIT defeats Knox; George Fox slips past Hamline... and Edgewood is there to pick up the pieces.

Final: Finlandia over SUNYM
