congrats to all the new guys on the list, and to brian for the championship.

i continue to discover missed teams every season, making me believe I'm having some issues... if I missed something, please sitemail me or post here to let me know.

Hey, we're no longer in danger. I remember the 1 season we were number 1. Snuck in just as Anderson was fading a bit, and right before UNCW and MBBC really had things cooking. Ah, those were the days.

thanks for keeping this updated thru the years.

Thank you for putting this list together yet again, Mr. Simpson. I still believe that you were innocent... and that Nicole was a cheatin' whore.

It got a big laugh here... in 1995.

Oj lassel jumped 5 spots and I only jumped 3 is this correct?
10/9/2009 7:11 PM
yea, the number of spots is irrelevant. Lassel moved up 11 pts and McMurry moved up 16.

That they moved up more spots with less points just means the race was tighter ahead of Lassel.

The race for the best conference has gotten contentious, and nobody wants to be behind; thusly, it's understandable that everyone will try and lure top notch coaches out of their big-fish-in-a-small-pond schools (like killbatman, or brianp last year). While this is good in the short term for the conferences, the consolidation of the coaching 'talent' in Wooden D3 will eventually kill the world.

When 4 conferences are full, a few others are half-filled, and 20+ conferences are nearly barren, it is going to have an effect on new coaches. They aren't going to stick around their ghost-towns for long, and they'll either go up the ladder to D2, or they will be bored by the game and figure it's not worth the money.

So what we should be doing--and take this with a grain of salt because it's a tough sell--is recruiting coaches from other worlds, and even more so, from outside whatif. Friends, co-workers, in-laws, whatever you can find. The only way--long term--this world is going to remain fun and competitive, is with new coaches and more depth.

While the number of quality programs seems to be at an all-time high, the drop-off after, say, 125 in the RPI is gargantuan.

I just poked through the conferences, and this is absolutely true. We are soon going to have a few full conferences and a ton of empty ones. Not sure this is in any way good for the world as a whole.

There aren't many teams outside of these 4 conferences to schedule that's for sure. What are some proposals to fix this because I assume at this rate we will have empty conferences and then some of these conferences will continue to whittle down to nothing? Would teams be willing to move conferences for the betterment of this D3 world?

It's a tough one...a lot of coaches have invested a lot of time and effort into building their programs and I'd say many (me included) would be reluctant to walk away.

That said, it isn't hard to imagine a future where for lack of better term there are 4 or 5 "DIII BCS" conferences and all others are 1-bid conferences, which clearly is not in the best interest of all either.

Then why did I get drug into the midwest coem on guys should I drop carroll and stay at MCMurry?
10/13/2009 3:24 PM
I don't think anyone is saying that Brian, just was an observation of what seems to be happening, right or wrong. I think in the excitement that began to build in creating several super-conferences that no one really considered what that might do to the remainder of Wooden. In the end it may be T-S.
