Real question is would someone like me and someone like bl, Taint or tang ever get along and solve a problem or are our views too disparate? I am genuinely curious what people think about that.
you, bl, taint and tang or some like you guys?? (I don't know if there is anyone like you or BL, dude)

Topic of the day: Supreme court term limits. Should we have them?

I'm going to say no to this. I don't believe that our founders would want this. Our constitution says they "shall hold their offices during good behavior." I believe this system works. We have an impeachment process. If we have a bad judge, they should be impeached. If they are doing a good job, let them stay.

Judge Judy on steroids! I like it!

When was the last time this happened though? Judges don't get impeached. My argument is simply about politicization. Right now, Presidents are nominating judges in their 50's, which makes hearings more politically charged.

They already do.

At 80 they should be forced to retire IMO.

On what grounds?

That they are more than likely no longer in touch with the masses maybe?
Also, let's be honest, at 80 even the best minds have slipped to where they aren't on par with the younger minds that would replace them.

I'm just not a fan of picking an arbitrary number as a cutoff. We have had people in our nursing home in their 40's with alzheimer's and there are people in their 80's who are sharp as a whip. As far as keeping up with the times, that is not their job. Their job is to interpret law. A law written today will still carry the same meaning in 40 years. The wording of our constitution means the same thing today as when it was originally written.

The Supreme Court should reflect the moral values of America. We won't have the same feelings on much of anything in 2057 when Bret Kavanaugh retires.
3/14/2019 10:18 AM
No, the legislature is supposed to do that. The supreme court is supposed to interpret law based on its intent when written. They shouldn't be legislating from the bench based on the mood of the country.
3/14/2019 10:22 AM
We both know that that isn't what is really happening.

Higher likelyhood of health risks so they may miss hearings or delay them, etc.
