Okay, that gets you more innings, but it still doesn't solve the problem of getting your specialist more appearances in a correct matchup.

I still haven't heard back from Admin a week later.  But my specialists have been appearing in even fewer games of late (18 and 17 games for 6 innings each after 75 games).  This is from a prog team that's practically clinched a playoff spot already, so I can afford to leave them in this role all season, just to see what happens.

crazystengel, I didn't realize until this last post of yours that you've been referring to your 1990 Cleveland juggenaut.  I just spent a few minutes looking through your stats, and I think part of the problem is that you have too much pitching on this team - and too much good pitching in particular.

While I don't know your settings, etc, my guess is whenever Sparky wants to put in a reliever on your team, he has too much flexibility - too many options.  I mean, you've got the awesome 1990 Tudor - and he's pitched a total of 55 IP through 76 games (147IP in real life).  Almost none of your (many) relievers are on pace to match their innings.

In the 6th-8th innings of your games, Sparky has a lot of good pitchers he can put in.  It doesn't seem like he's screwing your team here.

Right now, your two specialists are on pace to get in something like 40 games apiece.  That's not bad - it means 80 times this season Sparky will bring in a good relief pitcher just to get the platoon advantage, even when he has a wealth of other good pitchers to choose from.  My guess is if you were to try this same strategy, but with 250-300 fewer IP (and maybe exchanging a few of your quality IP for mop-up innings), these guys would get more work.

That's a good point about having too many pitchers/innings.  Almost no one's on pace to hit their RL targets, so I shouldn't be disappointed that my specialists aren't, either.

I guess what I'd like to see is, when the game is close, that the specialists get called in ahead of the setup guys (for most of the season I've had 3-5 guys in the setup role).   What I'll try next is moving my setup guys to long A, and bumping my long A's to long B.   Maybe that'll mean more appearances for the specialists.

Both specialists got into the pm2 game, after I set all the other relievers on long A or B.  The first one pitched badly, though, and cost me the game (I was surprised that he lasted 2 batters, after he gave up a hit to the first batter -- I thought a 5 pull meant a quick hook if you gave up a hit?).

Oh, and here's the response I got from Admin about why my specialists weren't being used more:

"Well, their usage depends a great deal on situation. As you know, a specialist is used in the 6th or later with the heavy usage coming in the 7th or later. And they'll only pitch in close games and where it gives the team an advantage. That's how the logic is coded."

I suppose my team's success has been keeping them out of games.  Maybe a powerhouse prog team is not the ideal team for a specialist.
