I know I am just a newb, and my opinions don't really count, but there is no way I would join an OL, and just roll the dice on the quality of my AAA players. $12.95 for the team, $25 if you win the WS...so a potential 2-1, vs. 23 other owners. I see no sense in that. Any league with random AAA, just makes no sense to me. I say that realizing that if I was the guy who hit the AAA jackpot, that is probably the only way I would win, but I'd rather plod along a course I could predict, and learn from my mistakes along the way.

I'll voice the opposing opinion and say that I like the random AAA. I rarely have a team where my entire AAA is either really good or really bad. The hitters usually do a good job of filling in 100 or so PA - some batting .300, some batting .175 - and the pitchers fill out mopup and Long B.

The randomness of AAA is just enough where an unusually good assortment might give the edge needed for a mediocre owner to win a few titles, while a poor assortment might be enough of a handicap where a great owner would be challenged to dominate all the time.

It provides variation in a format that can often get repetitive.

I'm with biglenr. Owners are clearly told UPFRONT of exactly how many PAs and IP they need to maintain on their rosters. Therefore, if your strategy is to cut your $200K scrubs, then you need to draft enough PAs from your starting position players with this in consideration. Or, if your feeling really adventurous and have been smoking some really good stuff, you can dispense with the headaches of trying to find ways to cut your scrubs and get some really good low PA guys by just burning $1.4 mil on a 540 PA scrub player like Jim Lillie and be done with it. LOL

I think the point of this thread was that fatcat doesn't like the rule, wants to see if anybody else doesn't like it, and hopes in the future it will be changed.

The point of this thread isn't that fatcat went into an OL depending on WW moves to give himself a chance to compete, and is now whining because he forgot.

Just thought I'd clear that up...

I agree that it needs to be changed. If you want IP minimums, fine. But not allowing you to pick up a 50 inning pitcher in exchange for two 25 inning pitchers is silly. It doesn't enhance the game any, which is what you aim for when making rules.

maybe what they should do is instead of enforcing the minimums all the time, they should just enforce them according to the roster before each game and if the roster does not have enough IP or PA, make the user forfeit the game. Could that work?

Interesting re-creation of my words... No idea what point you are trying to make (you can't win more than75 unless you abuse fatigue?), but interesting.

That's a great idea. Send it as a suggestion. They might just act upon it. That would clear up all the legit issues with the minimums.

Won't be fast, some coding effort would have to be done to move where teams are validated, and an auto-forfeit function would have to be built in... You'd also have to play out the game, to build stats for the players involved, otherwise someone would use this to manipulate fatigue even more....

The proper phrase is "Jackbooted thugs", with "Nazi" being optional between the words, depending on mood.
