I can't believe it: first time in the Final Four! Beloit won a national title way, way back in the early days of HD, but this is this is the best season since then.

Beloit is an easy favorite to win the NC as far as I'm concerned. I've played everyone but GF and Beloit is by far the best team. GF's only loss is to Beloit and that was early on before xulapaul had his team figured out. Not many have come close since.

Good luck Paul, it would be nice to see that championship in the Midwest trophy case. And it was years 6 and 7 that Monmouth and Beloit won back to back NC's. Maybe we can do that again!

upstate's eliminated from the NT and still the focus of the forum. love it.. . .

why dont we just take you three and a couple of your conference mate's and throw you all in the same conference? we can even ask admin to rename the conference after you guys, the Press Break Mafia(i love how its not a fad, yet everyone runs it). maybe then we'd have some competition for best conference.

i cant wait for this conf challenge to get underway, should be some fireworks. nice to have some life back in wooden. actually, its always had life, but i think competition is best its been since the UAA/Heartland battle days...

oh, and i'll post the RIP list again. conferences that have 'attempted' to take us down over the past 30 seasons. Now they're barren (simai) wastelands of DIII wooden.

R.I.P.
UAA
Penn
Heartland
Empire 8

wont be adding miaa, NAC, or midwest to the list anytime soon, but i've got all the time in the world (my team sucks and am alway out of the post season).

Pick for the finals:

George Fox over Thomas

Geewiz, you're changing your pick from McMurry to Beloit?
8/14/2009 7:51 AM
I never picked McMurry, I said they were #1 ranked in my power ratings. My gut pick was GAC ever since the beginning of the season.

But if I have to pick a winner now it's Beloit. They are the only team I've played where it semed I had no chance to win once I got behind. Everyone else I either beat or was right there til the end.

Beloit is tough and george fox doesnt even belong
8/14/2009 9:29 AM
Don't forget Finlandia, guys. Goose may have the best press/break mafia of them all! He has quietly built that program into a winner.
8/14/2009 10:53 AM
I don't see the "George Fox does belong" argument. Are they getting questioned because Fox actually runs a different system than the other programs? The fact is, if ATH/SPD is the only deciding factor between two teams, would this game really be that fun?

There is no reason an experienced team with, in George Fox's instance, good PER shooters can't win even if they are slightly slower and less athletic. Think of them like one of Butler's teams the past few years.

I hope ATH and SPD aren't the only deciding factor but it seems to play a big part as the FB/FCP mafia excell in those, as they should. Knox went to the finals a few seasons back and they seemed to do it with 60+ ball handling and passing but had terrible LP and PER. To stand out it seems you have to be very good in "something". I've been trying to beef up DE and BLK since I play a combo-zone and it's started to work to a degree.

Press/Break Mafia is a term I copyrighted, so now every time someone uses it in this forum, they owe me a nickel.

Lawd have mercy, we're in the finals. How the heck am I going to make it through the next 23 and 1/2 hours?

Polo, They forgot a small legion of Golden Knights whose castle can be found on the lands of Potsdam, NY that was still alive in the PT that was piling up battle win after battle win to ensure the Upstate would win the RPI Conference War yet again. ;-)

Congratulations to toysboys and George Fox, DIII Wooden national champions. The championship game was a tale of two halves, and GF played better in the second half when it counted most.

nice season, guys. just an FYI, I'm really busy at work right now, so unlikely to get to the rankings for a few days...

Holy crap, camrun has apparently retired (or moved up). This is a pretty momentous day in Wooden d3.
