State Farm Squads: How Can I Assist? Topic

Ast% bump strategy definitely works. I've used variations on it without going "Full Monty" as of yet. It's fun to try and reach the sweet spot while still finding low TO / high efg% guys to compliment it.

I have a question about this strategy. The concept is brilliant, I'd like to say to begin and I respect jlg for finding such a dominant strategy. Obviously higher ast% = higher fg%, but I'm curious as too how much I can tweak this and still have a competitive team. Basically, I'd love to do a state farm team while adding my own spin on it. If I were to get a high volume scorer with a non-so-impressive fg% and just surround him with as much ast% as possible, would this be successful? For example, I take somebody like Elgin Baylor or Kobe (high scoring but fg% around 45%) and put them on a team with magics and stocktons and the highest possible assist percentages I can find, would this translate into wins? I understand this would be less efficient than Bron or Shaq even with the boost, but I was curious as to how much I can change the recipe without spending money on a losing team. Thank you in advance for any advice.

Yeah. Just remember, if you use someone like Kobe, you're going to lose 25-40 ast% depending on where you put him.

Just thought I would share my first state farm squad on here
8/10/2016 11:44 PM
Thanks ash. Maybe a big man would be a better idea.

Just an idea: see what would happen if you used 61-62 Wilt Chamberlain

I have a couple of times but I think it would be hard in an open league he is expensive. first time I used him was a 47 mil cap and I made the playoffs. he shot 57%. the second time I used him was in a really high cap he shot like 62% but my record sucked.

Corvino630: I know that elguapo22 is currently experimenting with Maurice Stokes on a state farm team. He won 54 games and Stokes bumped his FG% from 35% to 42%.

I would still recommend using LeBron as your high usage % guy on a state farm team

The whole point of a state farm team is to load up with assist guys. Putting a guy with under 5 assist % doesn't really fit with this strategy.

Thanks benhoidal. I was thinking possibly Kareem, Moses Malone or Wilt's rookie season. Or maybe Elgin Baylor at PF. I'll see how the salary works out and if it looks solid I'll give it a try. Why not, y'know?

Scored a 100 more points in the same amount of minutes as his real numbers too, and that's with Lebron averaging a million points for that team. That being said, the affect actually increases the better your efg% is (I think I can say that with certainty even without doing the underlying math) because Noah had 220 more points, Stocktons both had 250+, and LeBron had almost 600 more.

If you want to do your own spin, I'd argue you could throw a random Klay/KG? or someone with really low TOs and decent efg% in for Lebron (so, less ast%), or something like that.

Also, damn you Ash. That team has now beat me in the playoffs with 3 different users. Heh.

I'm trying an idea I saw abrondon use to try and combat these ast% bump teams. I loaded up on oreb% (Rodman, Ruffin, Fortson, Kanter, etc) and high efg% guys. Took 15-16 Curry and 94-95 Stockton for my backcourt. I'll let you guys know how it works (though I'm not going to be playing them 48 mpg like he did heh).

Idea worked (in the Regular Season, at least)!

Had a team in my division that did the Stockton-Stockton-Magic-Lebron-Noah combo and still finished with the best record in the League (so...there is a counter to the assist bump teams at least in the Regular Season).

Here's the stats...for reference my PG rookie was Darnell Valentine (if I remember correctly) who had 1250 RL minutes, so that helped a lot. My frontcourt rookies were Meh, but they soaked up some valuable minutes. Kanter was a dumpster fire defensively, but basically between 14-15 and 15-16 put up a 25-10 in 36mpg, so that was nice. The Whiteside/Drummond combo gave me options to defend teams with solid front court play, as well.
