One thing that was always been a bit confusing to me is the depth charts for DL. It is very rare that a DL is rated higher at DE than DT. Most of the time your top rated DT is your top rated DE and this makes zero sense to me. In college football DE need to have the strength and power to do battle with offensive linemen, but also the speed and quickness to chase down the quarterback on passing plays. DT are more useful at filling the gaps up the middle. Speed is not really a necessity.

instinct tells me to ignore the ratings and put my quickest DL at DE. Thoughts?

I have converted LB to DE. Increase in speed to 90, with same strength and decreased tackle. No significant results difference by Senior year. BUT, they did well as KO returners.

You can tweak the position roles values to emphasize speed. It won't show up on the player cards but it will show up in the depth chart settings.
