Two things worth noting:

1. The Gilette commercials included African American players, in 1956, which is nice to see.

2. Gilette gave away a Baseball Encyclopedia with its razors!

The Yankees, except for Mantle, Berra and maybe Bauer, don't seem that impressive. I always wonder how they dominated all those years.

I mean Enos Slaughter, age 40 is their number 5 hitter. Compare this lineup with say the 68 Tigers or 69 Orioles or the 75 Reds, or even the 57-58 Braves they would later face, and it is strange how regularly they won.

Thanks, italyprof! Nice to see you posting in the forums.

After watching Peter Jackson's docs on WWI and The Beatles and what he did to clean up that old film, it makes me wish MLB would invest in something like that. So much great footage out there, would love to experience it in pristine condition.

Thanks for posting; like how you could get the "vest pocket" size Baseball Encyclopedia along with a razor for a buck in 1956.
