Is it just talent/recruits that matter?? Topic

First and foremost, this is just me venting while asking at the same time. This game and its engine must revolve around "Talent" and not game planning or playbooks. I totally understand talent wins games and even in real life, but what about strategy? (rhetorical maybe)

IMO the QB is the most important piece to the puzzle, followed by solid big girls in the trenches. I guess why, WHYYYYY do I always recruit the QB that likes to always, and just once or twice give the rock away no matter how much I adjust the playbook to his strengths. Even is the offense is dumbed down to basic running with a little pass and catch here and there. IDK just venting on the litter web...LOL please forgive me fellow coaches.

JeffN just won 3 consecutive national titles at South Carolina in Warner 1A. He never had a recruiting class that ranked higher than 11th. This is but one example of many.

Yes but guess recruiting ranks dont matter as much as we think imo. However I have had #1 classes, taken an L and seen that my opponent exploited my weaknesses much better than I did his in the play by play. To answer OP, I think recruiting definitely matters a lot. However it isn't where games vs humans are won and lost if teams are close enough.

Talent is king in this game. Whoever has the best talent will generally win the matchup. Game planning definitely comes into play when the talent gap is marginal or close to even. You also have to take into account some randomness of sim rolls, for example; KR/PR TD's, blocked FG/ punts, penalties (which could possibly be controlled by FIQ).

jhunterz has it right.

Gameplanning always matters somewhat (as far as maximizing efficiency goes) but it really only has a major effect on wins and losses when the talent levels between teams is reasonably close. You can't gameplan your way to wins if you are at a significant talent disadvantage.

Also, any and all of the "recruit ranking" systems are inherently flawed (useful just as a one-time snapshot at that moment) because they don't take into account future growth, i.e. work ethic is not valued in the formulas and the recruit potentials are completely unknown. They are not a true representation of the best recruits.

Talent is huge in this game, but small to moderate differences in talent can be over-come by other aspects of the game like good game planning and playbooks.

Does running the ball improve the odds of turnovers? My RB fumbles a lot!!

Also wondering if blocking at the FB, WR and TE positions actually help a running game here??

Conventional wisdom is that fumble rates are tuned a little high and INT rates (for good QBs) are a low right now.

While I agree that the INTs are low, I'm not sure on the fumbles. Has anyone compared fumble rates in GD games to real life data?

FB and TE blocking helps in the run game, WR does not.

It seems that way to me.
