What do you guys think the preseason ranking points come from? I'm speculating it's the amount of prestige a program has. Or do you think it's a legit formula for that season's rosters. I'm only asking bc you can tell certain things in the recruiting page so wondering if there's more underlying loopholes.

Couldn't be the prestige rankings, at least the ones according to you, because the 14 elites are all ranked 1-14 in some order.

I always thought it was based on the previous seasons performance combined with the number of returning starters/level of seniors.

At D1, it's some kind of calculation that includes prestige (as the Elites are almost always the top 14 teams) and overall roster strength/overall ratings formula.

Every once and awhile, an Elite gets "tanked" somehow they drop out of the top 14, but it's rare.
