I am in a theme league that does not use the DH. But I have '98 Chili Davis, who was a DH the whole year and has no fielding stats. What defensive stats will the sim give him? Will he have a primary position or will those stats be the same for every position? The sim does not put an asterisk or carot over any of his positions.

I don't know what stats the sim gives those players, but I had 1991 Jack Clark (no fielding stats) in a prog league.  He started 144 games at 1B, had 30 errors and made 11 minus plays.  Not as bad as I thought he would be.

I don't know the actual numbers either, but I can tell you that he will be progressively worse with more difficult positions to play. In other words, play him at first, as in crazystengel's example, or perhaps in a corner outfield position. Anything else would likely be disastrous. I'm assuming his bat is significantly better than whoever else you have on your team that has legitimate defensive ratings?

My '10 Thome/Twins version isn't rated as a fielder. I put him in at 1b. He started 80 games, made 16 errors for a .976 f.pct. Only made 11 - plays. He hit 11 Hrs, .294/.433/.483 line playing home games at Dodger. Certainly didn't kill me in the field.

Unrated players play worse than D-/D- players at 1b.   If you move them up the spectrum they suffer out of position penalties like any other player.

Translation:
Really bad at 1b
Horrendous in RF/LF
Basically unplayable at other positions.

Try playing a DH at C...that is fun ;)

Thanks for the info guys. As bad as my team is playng now I might as well start him at C. He is a bench guy with a good bat. i wanted to know where I could sub him in.
