Underachievers of The World Unite Topic

My underachievers team won its first game of the season, 9-4, but they showed ominous signs of what may sink them in the future.  Steve Carlton pitched brilliantly, allowing only two hits and striking out eight, and Willie Mays hit a two-run homer.  Then Trevor Hoffman did what he does best, at least in SIM -- he blew the save.  He came on in the 9th, immediately gave up singles to Tim Raines and Eddie Collins, then surrendered a 3-run HR to Billy Williams.  Nice.  But Steve Evans (Amy's "shiny rock"), one of my few non-underachievers, bailed him out with a three-run double to key a five-run 10th.  On to the next.

3-0 not so bad

And outscored your opponent by a combined 28-11 for the 3 games!!!

If only my players could "underperform" like yours.

I keep thinking my underachievers are setting me up for a big fall.  Only three games in, my `70 Willie Mays ($4.64 MM) is hitting .571/.625/1.214 and my `51 Mays is batting .286/.313/.786 with 2 HR's and 6 RBI's.  Amy's shiny rock, Steve Evans, not an underachiever at all, is hitting .364/.563  and so is uberunderachiever Joe Morgan.  Mickey Cochrane is hitting ,.417/.563 and Al Simmons is doing well.  Steve Carlton has had a great game and Dean Chance got a win, though not a particularly pretty one.  Only Trevor Hoffman truly blows so far.  Give `em time.

Oh yes they will jump up and bite you in the butt.

My underachievers go to 5-0 as one of my AAA prospects hits a PH grand slam and Al Simmons hits a 2-run HR.  Joe Morgan is batting .368 and Willie Mays `70 is hitting .500.  Trevor Hoffman picked up his second save and lowered his ERA to a "mere" 12.00 (not a typo).  Onward.

My underachievers have underachieved their way to a 7-0 start.  Willie Mays `70 is hitting .464/.531/.786, Joe Morgan is hitting .296/.441 with 3 SB's and Al Simmons is hitting .424/,441.  Steve Carlton just won his second game and got another 8 K's.  Pride goeth before a fall?

9-0.

Won 7-6 on a three-run double in the 9th by Joe Morgan.  They may break my hearts, but I love these guys.

My underachievers are currently 15-5 after a 9-0 start.  Amy's "shiny rock" Steve Evans, Al Simmons, one of the Willie Mays and Mickey Cochrane are hitting a ton.  Joe Morgan, not surprisingly, is doing his underachieving thing.  This is a team that will have fatigue issues, and the roster can't go untended at all (learned that the hard way).  The starters only have 4100 PA excluding my AAA 3B prospect and scrubs -- about 580 PA per position.

Here are my pitchers.  Steve Carlton has been better than I expected, despite his ERA, Dean Chance has been about what I expected and Trevor Hoffman has been rancid.

Maybe you're crashing the SIM. It might have an underachievement threshold per team. You've overloaded it with players who should under-perform and forced it to treat them like normal players. Then again, it's still early.

I didn't know Cochrane '34 was an underachiever. Can't remember if I've used that exact season, but the few times I've used him he's been at least average.
